but believe it is for low winds. Can anyone recommend anything that could be used in 30 knots with a Go Pro?
I had a friend attempt to film me sailing from a drone. Alas there wasn't enough wind, the gimbal thingy mucked up and all he got was an upside-down shot of the beach, and now he's moved to Melbourne. 
Was about 15 knots and he said it was handling it easily. Mind you his is military spec. and cost about $3K. Thing'll fly itself home in an emergency.I don't know about the Harvey Norman one. see below.
I don't know what they're using in this one, but it sure isn't 20 knots as they are claiming. Looks like 15 tops.
A DJI s1000 or S800 will do the trick - prepare to be shocked at the price tag though! You need a gimbal for the camera and good radio gear too.

. Sounds like a great idea to film aerial video. The only thing I recommend is jumping on a UAV site and talking to operators and see what they have to say about your idea.
I seem to remember some video footage take of Sail Rocket from a radio controlled model plane. I may have seen the same type of thing from Luderitz.

This is shot with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision. You can buy these for <$600 AUD out of Asia. Pretty cheap. You can fly them in 20 knots it's seems. Ricardo Campello has one in Maui he said he could fly in 30 knots but the footage is a bit shaky... photos work ok though at that windspeed he said.

The dji phantom is good up to 15 knots but after that it fights too much and drains the battery quickly. You'll need to invest in something a bit more solid then the phantom to get good windsurf action. That said the phantom is excellent for getting scenery and lifestyle shots with smooth results, Easier then setting up dolly shots. Ricardo, Just like me has crashed his and from what I read so have most others. I don't think the transmitter they used in the phantom 1 were all that good, They are greatly affected by wi-fi signals which cause them to do funny things...Even the wi-fi from the GoPro itself can cause interference. I believe this has since been fixed with the phantom 2. Mine has crashed twice for what would appear to be no reason at all, They just fly off on occasion. It survived the first crash into the ocean but the second one was into the ground which destroyed it. Strangely though the GoPro survived both crashes even though it wasn't in a housing? I think these will be banned before long.....So I'm buying another before it happens.

I believe there is a firmware up date to fix the wifi flyaways, if the DJI gets the same signal for 10sec it'll stop, wait and if same same will go into fly home mode. There is a video explaining it, I got a DJI for 500 delivered with extra battery, lots of fun, needs a gimble for GoPro and I ordered a cheapie for $80 recommended by a few forums, could be poop but I'll play with it and see but not home for another 2 weeks.
As I said lots of fun, like everything, new version is better, longer flight times etc. My flight times are ok but I never do anything sus without a fresh battery. I'm away but when I get back I'll do the firmware update and cross fingers no bugger offs 
Mine crashed after the firmware update....Beware!

Thanks for all this advice. The Phantom 2 has a better battery, but based on the detail on this forum it sounds like it is still a major stretch. Will investigate and report back for benefit of others...
This is another option, but don't believe the quoted fly time. Also, 15-18 knots will be tops for this unit as well.
I'm going down the build your own path. Far more frustrating, but cheaper/bigger bang for buck.
The "brain" is the key. It's allows you to move between quad, hex and octo copter configurations.
Battery's, motors, props et all are way more customisable than ready to fly.
There are open source models that do more than just return to home, but can fly a pre programmed flight path using GPS and an altimeter.
Octo's seem to be slightly better for high wind and give you a bit more fail safe.
Go the DJI or Walkera if you are not technically minded, even getting the order right for all the parts is a nightmare, and you will be ordering more stuff I guarantee.
The season is over, and autumn is a great time to learn to fly.
Don't buy from Hardly Normal. A quick search will get you a far better deal.

They are waterproof, so if they take a dip or land on water all good. I'm pretty sure he started with a cheaper one that went missing on a slightly windy day.

(also rc choppers in general are dangerous - not for public beaches)
You can get stabilisation systems for RC heli's that have a mode that let's you 'drive' them around like a car at a constant altitude.
But, as you say, they are dangerous, and the size you need to carry a decent camera can easily kill someone if it crashes.

Looks like the new DJI Phantom Vision + might be the new king of affordable, user-friendly drones. The included gimbal-mounted camera makes all the difference.
