I've had a Atom 100 for couple years now and fancy a change for higher wind range but retain good top speed and poss small wave play . All my sailing is open sea and at times very rough sea state this will be my small board still got my Goya 115 bolt . The starship seams to have good reviews , I'm 80kilo so think the 90 wmy be bit small side if I changed. Has anyone got one or sailed?
Help !
Best board I have ever sailed. I have the 2016 Starship 115L board. Huge wind range board with a huge wind range for sail sizes. Performs well in all conditions. I use it from 12-30 MPH winds from a 4.7 - 6.8 sail size. The Starship 100 I bet would be a rock star out their.
The board wants to jump when it hits a wave. Great bump n jump board, gybes perfectly, halls butt when ever you want cuts up chop instantly. Awesome in waves and flat water. To me, it's the perfect all around board. Like advertised, it's a board on steroids. It begs to be dominated. You will love it.
Yeah a demo would be good, I'm going to Maui in a little bit, and I am going to rent the Starship 90L board. By the way I am the same weight as you. I saw the 90L up close before I purchased the 115L. The 90L looks fine to me, with still plenty of room to move around, but I am used to narrow boards and a fan of them as well. The reason I purchased the 115L is because the wind where I live is mostly between 12-18 MPH. But the huge wind range allows me to use the board in high winds too.
The Naish Starship looks like an evolution of the Koncept Board of 2011/12.
Kind of a Jack of all trades do anything board.
I've got the 2011 and it's still my go to board for most sailing conditions.
Wouldn't recommend it for designated wave sailing but everything else it can do.
Comfy ride and pretty fast. I've done 34.5knt on my 110L
Sailed with a 4.7m - 7m, bigger fin and i reckon a 7.8m is still ok - 15 - 25knts of wind
Thanks for the info, deffo gonna try the 100 the atom 100 still good board but fancy a change but don't want slower board so starship sounds good and different.
Cheers.
