I appreciate that IMAX,
I am pretty new to this Seabreeze website, but man, people can really turn you off by rude disrespectful comments. For newcomers it's definitely a turn off and poor representation of Seabreeze. That's my negativity for the day, maybe some optimism can come from this.. One thing we all share is the love for windsurfing.
Poor use of the word " pontificate" Magic Ride. Little need to get ecclesiastical on a windsurfing forum- gets me very confused! You have enjoyed a sound response from genuinely helpful audience for uniquely minor problem! You ought to be more - how should I say? Humbled?
I think "Respect your fellow windsurfers" should be the phrase of the day. This site needs improvement in that area. I see disrespect from many windsurfers here daily and it sucks!
actually AUS79 was posting when Magic Ride was giving the answer
and NO ONE was anticipating that we were talking about a dinosaur sail
one hint might have been year - discussed
Magic Ride actually needed a one piece epoxy mast
too many posts and answers recently definitely suggest lack of wind
we want more RED BUMS - oops freudian slip - THUMBS
and i think we have all had "badly rigged sails" even WITH the correct mast/sail combo ...
I thought maybe the red and white writing on your mast clashed with your orange sail.
I agree with Sparky......
Wow
Little mast quiz games, posts of Porsche toting windsurf gear and now disparaging the forum participants behaviour
OK , everyone breath ........ We are all here because we're a little bored..... And we're not shagging that little hottie that we used to.
In our moments of boredom ( like now ) we should be positive or instructional even after six or was that eight ( I can't remember ) beers.
A little
Ill take a mast quizz any day.

I think you need to realise Mr Magic, you're on a Aussie forum, the culture here is a tad different, "taking the p1ss" and sledging is just our strange humour. If you can bring your self to stay with us long enough, you'll get used to it.
Just as an aside, most people here would be used to seeing luff and mast length written on the sail, and also used to masts getting shorter every year. It's almost a given that you know what the mast length should be. And if you didn't you'd certainly find out before buying a new mast. That you didn't was a bit of a surprise, and leaves you open to our sense of humour.
But thanks for trying to educate us for what you thought would be a trap for young players.

Don't take things too seriously magic/imax The majority of people on here are actually really nice people, I'm sure of it. It's just easy to fall into argument for the sake of arguing when there's no face to face with the other person with a keyboard.
Im glad you've found out what size mast that old sail takes (unfortunately not the one you've bought )
Take it all with a pinch of salt.
Bad luck on that one Magic Ride. To own up to such a crazy mistake as thinking you could replace a 430 with a 400, takes a lot guts. If I was silly enough to not do the maths first, I would be keeping very quiet. Thanks for giving us a good chuckle at your expense.
Well Magic, I have a feeling that this thread didn't go exactly the way you wanted it to, but throwing a 16 year old sail into your equation was kind of a non-magical setup.
Just woke up from a good sleep and look at all these responces. Obviously I am not as savy as I thought with mast/sail selection. I been windsurfing for 12 years and I never had an issue like this before. Maybe cuz I have a lot of pride mixed in with honesty at the same time.
People here are saying that my new mast is a hardtop. I was sold on it buy the shop that it was a CC mast. Anyway, if indeed this is a hardtop as most of you have said, which sail manufacturers will work on this mast? It would be a wave sail, since I have a wave mast. I am a fan of Goya, Naish for the most part. Will these brands work? Any others?
You have to figure out the year and model of the mast. Look at the 2 following URLs. These are charts developed by Unifiber which help you match different models of sails and masts. The problem you have is that a 2013 Maui Sails mast is a hard top and the 2014 is a constant curve. Once you are confident in the model year of the mast, use the relevant chart to see what sails you can use
www.unifiber.net/masts-selector
www.unifiber.net/2014/mast-selector
The cereal number is, 20605040
Are you using weet bix as a mast? That's not right.

As a general guide
Hard Top
-Naish
-Gaastra
-Maui Sails
Constant Curve
-Goya
-KA
-Severne
-North
-Simmer
-Ezzy
Flex Top
-Neil Pryde
-Tushingham
The unifibre chart is pretty accurate ..
i thought my naish RDM would work with my 2016 naish sprint ...which is made for a SDM.
but it is harder than the Sdm ,naish .so I'm having to put two holes up on the extension to
get enough down haul ...
Which is clearly stated on the unifibre chart ..'I trust it...
I think a new sail is coming for you magic ride ...
5.0 naish .to suit a 115 starship .and a 400 hard top.
As a general guide
Hard Top
-Naish
-Gaastra
-Maui Sails
yes, Maui Sails were always REALLY HARD TOP
up until 2014 - since then CC = constant curve
actually S2Maui Sails masts are also CC
this is the "new" company of Barry Spanier, Artur Szpunar & Rick Whidden - originally Maui Sails - until about 2015
(there are others in S2Maui, but not sure if they were with MauiSails before)
once upon a time Severne was known as HARD TOP as well ..
based on Unifiber GA is going/gone CC too !!
guess all that is a good thing - unless all your masts are NOT CC
Very interesting to know. Sparky the cat says the serial number I gave is not correct. That's the only number that stood out to me. The number was at the base of both sections. If that isn't the number, where else would it be? Would it be ingraved in the mast somewhere?
