I have had a wayler ypsi since the early 80's which I took to Mauritius but I have lost the centre board and back fin, can anyone help me with some details of shape and size to manufacture for replacing them. Perhaps these items are for sale, let me know. Much appreciated as I am dieing to get back on the water. Thanks
Piers
Sorry can't help with parts for your Ypsi, your post got me thinking about my 1st board it was a Wayler Breeze 200L I think the breeze was the sportier board in the range it had footstraps and a fully battened 5.9 sail, once u got it planing I reckon another 5 knots and u were overpowerd. The whole package cost $950 back in the 80's mum & dad thought I was crazy but back then windsurfers were everywhere and shops to. One of my best memeries with the breeze was to sail it around Ramond Iland in the annual race I had to tack and tack and tack for 3.5 hours and didn't get planing once. I then moved onto the Wayler Fencer epoxy! Anyone else remember the Fencer?
ahh, yes, the Fencer... that was my first high performance waveboard,. 9'6'' and about 135l, thrusters, cool. and it was light! woowee... under 30lbs! sweet.
actually now, more than 20years later, im kinda in the market again for a very large waveboard, for those really light days. any suggestions?
thanks guys, already have a 105 wave board, was actually thinking really big for those very light days (trying to cut the string boarding thing ) was thinking of the kona surf, just wonder if itd be worth it, anyone try one? what ya think?
jeesus, the ypsi uses a standard algaier daggerboard system still in use today and if you wish to resurrect your ypsi contact your local windsurfing dealer if they are on the pulse, or as a last resort p.m. me as i know know more about old crappy windsurfing euro junk than any australian alive today!
if anyone doubts me, then lets start a seperate thread about hardware for old crap!
if anyone cares
anyone for a 'sodim salsa' fin replacement or a 'stip holiday' mast base reworking.
Ahhh, Sodims....now they were a board. Do you remember the one that had a fin sticking out horizontally from each rail?
However, I'll take you on as chief old board nerd of Australia.....particularly if I get to drive up the coast and get my mag collection out (I've got ones from about '78 with me now).
The RRD Longrider and some of the Konas use Allgier centreboards. Maybe you could email the companies and get a snapshot and dimensions and build one; even in ply it would be better than the original.
Hey Greeny,
remember the old Mystere boards some shonky imported?
I ended up with a "Shuttle" as my first "short" board after a One design. The guy I got it off said it would all fit together, bull****!!!!!
Took me a week of fiddling and modifying just to get the mast base into the board.
Ah, the pangs of naivety still run deep.
That Wayler board is from a Wayler allrounder - the Ypsi had the Allgier DB which retracts fully.
WWilly, I'm hoping to digitise the mags but since I'm also after a small favour from the old copyright holder of many of the best of them, I've got to hang on for a little while.
If/when they go up, it will be on lbws.com
