My mate and I are planning a windsurfing holiday. Destinations we have thought of so far, Cocos Islands, Noumea, Maui.
Just wondering what the wise heads in this forum would suggest. Leaving from Cairns area, not too far away and not too expensive. Family friendly.
Thanks in Advance.
depends on time of year -
maui - june - august (thier summer is windy season
noumea - dec - feb our summer is windy season
What time of year??
Sitting in Cocos at this moment, 3rd day of 20kts +-, looking like the rest of the week is the same.
Great place, fantastic for families.
Check out on 2ndWind's Facebook

Hey Kunjenboy,
Have you and your mate been to WA before?
If you are considering a summer trip why don't you just come to WA?
Something for everyone, flat water, waves and a very good exchange rate for your Qld Dollars.
Cocos is better for kiting. If you pick the wrong week, and the tides are low during the day, you won't be sailing much, even if there is wind.
Unless you do the whole package deal with second wind, you can't hire gear on the island ad-hoc and will have to take your own.
My pick is Maui for winter and WA For summer.
WooHoo, 1000 posts. Do I get a prize Laurie?
After the pwa last year in Nouméa, Maciek R and A2 were invited on a private trip to the exclusive Kunie/isle of pines (south of Nouméa)
The two bays featured in the movie are sacred places, you are not allowed to windsurf there unless you have been through a traditional process with the tribal chiefs. Sorry no english subs
Nice spot.... I was born over there !
Thanks for the feedback, guys, I'm just wondering if there are any other nearby destinations that I didn't mention.
We basically use 100-120 litre boards with sails from 6m-8m.
Thanks again.
Plenty of Australian places to visit as well
Lake george - SA - awesome in late jan
Sandy point Vic
Lancilin WA
Cevantes / Geralton (abrohlis is) - WA
north West WA - shark bay etc
Green Island Cairns - great in winter but need to time the tides.
Fiji is an option. Approx. 3.5 H flight from Sydney, more direct from QLD.
Wind season is roughly May-Sept, I think.
