After 3 months off due to fractured elbow etc i finailly got my first proper sail in on sunday.
Perfect condition's, one of those days that i will always remember as "it was freaking all time"
Need to get some anti-fog thingys will order from here today as the water and air was so warm it kept fogging up hence the footage is a bit smoking at times
I totally agree, a great angle. What kind of mounting mechanism were you using for the camera? Was it the usual GoPro hardware and you just inverted the video later? I'd love to use that aspect on my rig too but haven't bothered yet as I didn't want all the file to be upside down

Its the handlebar seat tube mount with a couple of extra extensions added.
I tried the vented helmet fitting on Riders video but its not so stable in a stack + you have to undo it every time you want to adjust your sail,with this mount you can set and leave it on there even when unrigging....I had plenty of time on my hands to play with mounts
i had the camera tilted over more so the footage looks more level when sailing in but not so good sailing out
The camera is the new hd2 and you can set it up for inverted mode so no upside down files....very handy
I reckon Go Pro makes that spot look really good, because you only focus on what's immediately in front. Does weird things to your perception of sail angle though. It seemed as if the sail angle relative to the board never changed, which it obviously did given the wave action on display...
Use a small strip of toilet paper inside the back of the camera and it will absorb the small moisture that is usually trapped in the case. Works a treat.
Is this position just out on the clew looking back, or have you extended it down from the clew? (cm's down??)

Ok here's the mount, as i said earlier its the bike handle bar mount $40 mine is clamped to the plastic fitting on the boom. Ive used a few extra fitting to get the correct angle.
Heres the angle from the side, i have the lcd back pack and found if you can just see the extension clamps on the boom your not to far off but its very hard to see when its on it side at the beach. Whether you do or dont have the lcd pack set it up at home you dont need to rig the sail take a pic look for the clamps
this angle is down to personal preference. you can have it dead straight bang in the middle which is great for sailing in both direction but the horizon will be at the same angle as the boom
for wave ride i reackon this angle is spot on, you can always flick it the other way to film some jumps.
i use some of the spare rope holes to cable tie the clamp to stop any movement also cable tie the bolt fitting that holds the casing on just to be safe. Use a screw driver to tighten everything up and do it up really tight

Yeah good Grant, still a bit sore for a few days after but I'm not complaining. I haven't got back on the bike yet but will do soon, I've got a jump i need to conquer.
Come with us the next time we go up there sailing.
Love to Gazza but I'm still healing myself, the busted leg is fine though the ligaments around the ankle are still dodgy but getting better. Looking forward to getting back into it next season, maybe ease into it with a trip to Oolarang, already bought the camera and mounts.
