I saw this today, anyone with hero 5 black (not me) can get overlays on videos. gopro.com/en/au/news/New-Telemetry-Feature-Quik-Desktop-App
I'm messing around with the quick gopro app at the moment and comparing the gopro tracks with my gw52 in gps results and so far the results look good. They seem to be within half a knot of each other which for video purposes is perfectly good enough for me. So far this looks like a real winner. I'll post a vid as soon as I get some decent footage. I've always wanted a cam with this feature and so far it's looking very good.
So here's a little bit of what the GoPro gauges look like:
Very cool app!
What I find very interesting is that the speed oscillations seem to match the camera bouncing up and down very well.

I noticed that myself! I guess it's an indication of good gps performance?
Unfortunately battery performance seem to be a big problem with practically every camera sold. A firmware update has helped things a little but it's still not good. Unless you really want the gps stick to the hero 4's.
An update to the battery situation, I'm running version 1.55 of the firmware and I'm getting about 1 hour 15 minutes of recording time give or take 5 minutes. That's recording at 1080p 60 fps with the gps on. I can live with that considering the cam is doing 2 jobs at once with the gps on. You need to go through the options and turn off anything you don't use. It can make quite a difference to battery life. I'm going to try some 4k recording tomorrow with the gps off. If I get 45 minutes of battery in 4k I'll be happy.
