Has anyone had much experience sailing on the RRD Firewing sails? How do they compare to other 3 cam sails such as the Severne Overdrive? If you have used them - did you use them with the RTS (Race Tuning System) added?

Costal Speed Team's Penny, Chris and Ryan seem to be getting great numbers in the GPSTC and Roger is 4th on the Patrik Slalom leaderboard all running the RRD Firewings.

Okay. Ta. Is there a way to see which gear people are using?

Not off the GPSTC website.
Reconosence and stake outs at their favourite haunts works best.
They're not timid creatures so you can get quite close without startling them.

I've got a rrd firewing mk 3 7.8m which I got last year. I also have severne overdrive r7 in 5.6 and the rest 5.2 6.3 7.0 and 9.7 are severne reflex r7 and r8. All are brilliant sails. They all have a very wide wind range and are super comfortable and fast. The differences are quite minor in my opinion. Most guys on gpstc list their gear. I base my purchases on support ( ie someone I know works there ) and availability. The minor differences are things like zippers and rig up direction is opposite, rrd has 3 pulley Downhaul, severne has 4 pulley. Rrd luff pocket is tight where you put the boom on and for my severne boom it's upside down so putting the boom is ten seconds mor difficult, no biggie. In my opinion reflex is best, then overdrive then firewing. But all really close. More importantly, whatever you get, get a downhaul winch.

To see gear being used on gpstc go to the sessions. Guys on coastal speed team, swan river mob and Perth southsiders tend to list what they use. You can also go to a person and see their top sessions and then go to the session and mostly they say what they used. There are top guys and girls using rrd, Ka, severne, np, Maui.

Check out coastal speed team. Salty nuts, girlspeed both use rrd firewing. Doddi and stroppo on Maui. In swan river mob and Perth southsiders Slowboat is on Ka, nauli and jay and Daryl on severne and 25 on np. Heaps of other top guys on a mix. Just an example to show all the top sails work.

I've got 6.3, 7, 7.8 and 8.6. I'm going to get the 5.7 when Jes gets them in. Love them. They may not be the fastest sail on the water but for me being a bit older comfort = speed. I have the rts for the 6.3 but haven't bothered using it yet. Go see Jes at 2nd wind I'm sure he'd have a second hand one you could demmo.
