The Divaldo Report

What a cracking weekend!

Looks like the people that got down early on Thursday / Friday scored with wind and waves, by the looks some of them were a bit tired come Saturday's expression session at Third ramp.

We were greeted with good cross off winds and a couple of feet of swell to keep everyone interested, 18 sailors out having a ball

Some great sailing from the likes of Ian Rushton, Kane and Scotty Mac, all pushing forwards and a few backies, was great to watch, certainly made judging hard!

Russ and the seaford posse were having fun on their non prefered port tack, maybe that will explain some interesting wipeouts, backwinding etc.....wait for the video (pretty sure Russ even got barrelled on one of his waves - well he's claiming it)

Richard upton had the new Kona out for a thrash early in the day and was carving it up in the waves, looking good, will be keen to see how it SUPS as well

Stand out sailor for me was Max, who I had never seen sail before, ripping it up on the left of the comp zone, I know you could surf Max, but geez mate, you have to sail more often, great stuff!

Results for expression session
1st Scotty Mac (give Pete a call mate, he has a prize for ya)
2nd Ian Rushton, SA's bass slappin, loop legend was outstanding, picked up a nice wettie for his troubles
3rd Kane Jeffries, getting better with age

Speed Comp -
I didnt get out to the spit, so if anyone wants to add to my report, then go ahead...
anyways, 15-18 competitors, all going very fast
1st Sam Doecke - 39 knots
2nd Anthony Mamood - 37 knots
3rd Carl McDonald - 36 knots
*apparently Pete Bohme posted a 44 knots top speeed, but as it was an ONBOARD weekend cannot win.

SUP comp - well we didnt really have one, there were waves, but just a bit too much wind for a really good session, Saturday at Third Ramp was too windy, Sunday morning was small and clean 'very' early, but not great, Third Ramp Sunday arvo, maybe could have done somethig, but pretty sure everyone was just happy doing their own thing, so no results

BUT......Sunday about noon, the water galssed off at the Beachport surfers beach, Bert, Richard, Riley and myself spend about two hours ripping the place apart, where was everyone? I lost count of how many waves I caught, Bert was testing out his late take offs, Richard was carving it up on his new green monster and Riley wore the tops of his feet off (gotta stand up more bro)

All in all, a bloody great weekend, thanks Pete and ONBOARD for putting this on, I am sure everyone had a great time,

Nice wrap up Dave - great weekend - good to see some great wavesailing and some of the cleanest aeriels I've seen in this neck of the woods

I finally thawed out at 3pm Monday at home

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that was a cold weekend

And by the way - I'm sure that wave was over mast hi - I was fully inside for at least 10 seconds on my back hand and the lip didnt touch the top of the mast
You probably only got the the shoulder lip slap on vid

Excellent weekend at Lake George spit.

Saturday 1/10/2011

Wind was 15 - 25 knots south to south east and made for some nice long runs with some flat water in the middle. Sam Doecke decided on the small 53 litre f2 xs missile and after a while to get going managed to sail up to the spit and managed to hook a gust and managed a 37.69 knot peak (F2 / Hotsails) - well done Sam. Anthony Hamood and Ricky Hamood rigged and sailed from the spit and Anthony managed a 36.71 knot peak (Fanatic / Neil Pryde). I sailed from the campsite and did a 35.93 knot peak (Starboard / Loft sails). Pete from Onboard did a 44 knot peak driving in the car from Robe to the spit (Toyota Landcruiser).

After Thursday and Friday today for me was a cruisy day and there was alot of people out having fun and enjoying the amazing flat water that was on offer. Good to see approx 15 sailors out ripping it up and Geoff Shuttleworth out enjoying it after a couple of months off for illness.

Also well done to Speed Demons for pb's in the Gps Team challenge. I think everyone would have to agree what a great weekend and it sounds like the wave sailors had fun too.

Thanks Onboard for the coopers and a great weekend. Can't wait till next year.

Cheers.

cracker of a weekend. i'd go so far as to say the best on record.

big ups to Onboard for organising and keeping us stocked in amber. all thanks to our patron of the wind "Saint Huey" for giving us three days in a row of amped conditions. and a special shout-out to those who brought firewood to the spit...i doubt we would have survived those brutal first two days without!

congrats to all winners and grinners alike.

let the countdown to next year begin.
