Come along to a FREE learn to Windsurf/Fun Day

Sunday 30th November, 12noon to 5pm

If you're keen to give windsurfing a go or have family and friends that are keen, come along and meet the local sailors who will be there to help you get started on the windsurfers provided by the club. It's also a chance to come and watch the local windsurfers in action, check out some of the gear, and talk to us about how to purchase new and second hand windsurfers. You'll pretty much find out all you need to get started.

The location will be Cremorne Lagoon (Honeywood Drive) or Dorans Rd jetty, Lauderdale. The location depends on the wind direction on the day so keep an eye out on this forum for an update closer to the day.

All you need to do is turn up on the day with a wetsuit, booties and a lifejacket

We'll have a BBQ running with a few snags and soft drinks so come along and join the fun

If you need any more information contact Damien (0409854754) or Ant (0417577884) or just post in this forum. If the weather is not suitable for beginners (wind too strong) then we'll change to another day.

Keep watching this forum for more information or changes that may happen.

A few pics from last year's learner day

In no time at all you'll be getting drilled at Marrawah

Then you'll spit the dummy

Hey!I'd LOVE to join!I'm an exchange student from Germany and just finished my semester. Now I'll stay here in Hobart for a while to work!Apparently I have nothing to bring - no wetsuit, booties, or lifejacket :S But is there still a way I could join you guys? I've been windsurfing for a week when I was 12, but that was soo long ago so it doesn't count anymore :) I'm sure I can get to the meeting location somehow via bus or hitch hiking, but would need the gear, which I don't have. Would you have some club gear that I could borrow? Thanks!

Looks like a nice light NE wind on Sunday so we'll probably hold the learner session at Dorans Rd jetty. Keep watching this post for another update closer to the day.

Great if we get plenty of locals down on some slalom gear so we have some action on the day.

Also anyone with a SUP would be good if you bring it down as the wind will be light offshore so we'll be looking for SUPPERS to help with rescue and pickup

I was told beginners are learning basic skills with Damien and so are launching at the normal grass area while progressives are learning forward loops with Houston at the nearby jetty..

TIME CHANGE

The wind is looking great for the learner session tomorrow at Dorans Rd but we will be starting at 11am and be all packed up by 4pm
Reason for this is the NE wind should also be good for a late session at Goats, the swell is not big but we got to take it when we can

Thank you so much for organising this day! It was my first time trying windsurfing and it was so much fun! My friends also enjoyed themselves too. I would love to try it again sometime soon, will there be anymore of these learn to windsurf days?
Thanks again for a great day
Alice

Thanks to everyone, great day.

A special thanks to the usual helpers, especially the one water crew and cooks!

The Learner days are the events that help keep windsurfing alive in Tasmania, driving new members to Windsurfing Tas and getting new faces on the water.

Then the clowns went to goats!!!
Great work Paul on the photos,

Great day all round, there were less learners that turned up compared to previous years but out of the 12-15 that hit the water 6 are buying gear that's the best hit rate we've ever had and so much easier than the 100 that came the first year when we advertised the event.

We were all packed up by 3pm, quite a few sailors got a good speed session at Dorans, the rest of us smashed into well over head high closeouts at Goats, bloody fun session and no broken gear............ya gotta love Goats it has to be the meanest wave for it's size on the planet
