I'm just learning to windsurf, and have permission from wife and baby to go for a sail on Sunday 15 Feb at St Kilda, probably hiring kit from Zu around 1 or 2 pm.
If any one else is in a similar position and would like some company whilst learning to gybe and tack and so on, let me know
Cheers J
This afternoon might be good for learning at St Kilda. There will be little chop/wind waves built up as it is very light this morning, too light to windsurf at the moment though. You probably want the breeze to get to about 8-10 knots to at least get moving. I would monitor www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV60901/IDV60901.95864.shtml
and wait for it to go around to SE through to SW. If it doesn't it will be offshore and not great for learning. It is not a favorable seabreeze gradient today so it may not really happen but if a light one comes in it will be a good learning day.
Hope it works and you get into the sport. It is great fun.
Hey Jeppo is looking good at the moment for learning at St Kilda. S 9 knots gusts to 11 knots. Just be aware winds may flick around a bit today. However, those of us already addicted are a little depressed waiting for a bit more wind.
Hope you get out.
Cheers,
Cameron.
Thanks for the advice.
I did go and rent and windsurfer, then a few days later I got a second lesson ... great fun, can't wait to go again.
I do need to find some sailing buddies -- my mates are not that interested. Anyone on the forum who is a bit of a beginner and wants some company on a weekend sail in the bay, let us know. Plus I'll join Windsurf Victoria perhaps.
Jeppo
Hey Jeppo - I'm leaning and generally sail alone. I normally head out in Seaford / Carrum area but am flexible. Hoping to get out tomorrow arvo if you're interested.
Dave,
Thanks, this weekend is a bit tricky -- lots of family stuff etc.
Which is a pity because the wind is looking good according to the forecast. I hope you get out there ... and I hope to on another weekend soon, maybe I'll see you on the water,
Jeppo
Hi guys, another newbie from Carrum area,
just got my first board and would be keen to meet and surf(try too..) this long weekend if keen?
cheers
Try Swan Bay @ Queenscliff. Flat water, shallow enough to walk back if needed. Bit muddy, but good for skin. We launch from QLYC off King St. Excellent for learning.
Anyone keen I'll probably go tomorrow (Sunday) at Elwood ... let me know if you'd like to come along,
Jeppo
