Hi All,

Just thought I'd share a great experience last night when a pod of dolphins decided to join me on a cruisy run down at seaford beach. Its such a wonderful experience. I just started windsurfing so I'm excited. I am sure there are more stories out there. Is this common?

cheers
michael

Hi Michael,
We do get them a bit down that end of the bay. I had two cruise along under my windsurf sup @ Gnotuk a while back....it was totally awesome cruising along with a creature that was equally as interested in you as you were with them!

Seen a small pod at chelsea twice, but havent seen them for a while now. Glad to know they are still around.

The last time I saw then they were being harassed by jet skiers. Called the police but they didnt show. Thought they would be turned off the place.

I have seen dolphins many times when sailing around Brighton. They were never interested in me. They just cruised along doing their thing, looking for lunch I guess.

I have had close encounters with dolphins a couple of times while surfing. They come up and say hello and hang around for a play.

It's great when you know it's a dolphin.

It **** when all you see is a grey shape zooming at you under water.

I had the "grey shape zooming" feeling at first and thought.."don't fall in", but soon realised when there was lots of them what was going on! Really great to hear these stories.

I have surfed with seals a few times down at Kilcunda, but never dolphins. The bay is quite a unique ecosystem.

A few months back I had six dolphins swimming around me while I was on my RS:One for about 1/2hour at Bonbeach. Most of the time I had 1, 2 or 3 swimming right next to me, rolling over and jump in front of the board.
It was an amazing feeling.

Micheal...i had a pod of dolphins pass me on a surf break as i was wave sailing when three peeled off the main group and stayed under and around my board for 20 to 30 minutes. When id catch a wave they would either stay at the front of the board or get airborn out of the wall. Some other guys came out but the dolphins stuck to my board. They were jealous...hahhaha. I was going up and down the break and just couldnt shake them off. As another guy passed me i was kind of laughing and lost my footing and came a cropper. As soon as i stopped the three dolphins pissed off.

I can second that moment at Bonno, one was right under the nose of my board rolling over and looking at me...awesome!!!

Us Geelong boys used to have a pet dufflin named Archie that lived in the Barwon river Estuary (near 13th beach) back in 2010.

He was as cheeky as a teenager.

First time i met him he circled me, came up next to me, winked and blew his blowhole!!

He often used to surf off the bown wave of my longy back then.

I guess he's hanging with some dufflin friends in the ocean now.

No but, this book illustrates the bond one can feel with animals.

I was harrassed by a mob (not a pod) down at the Prom. Almost as bad as jetskiers. Darting all over the place. Couldn't do anything but sit there. Crazy dudes.
