Hi all,

Been working at this wave sailing thing for bit now and really enjoying it but my right foot is starting to give me trouble.

It feels like a bone growth just where the foot strap rubs on top of my foot, not sure if it is a bone spur, a fracture or something else. Red arrow is pointing to the bump.

Swells up and is sore after a sail. I have loosened my foot straps quite a bit since my free riding days and tend to wedge my feet in a lot harder to get over the boards center line when turning.

Going to get the doc to check it out but thought I would check here to see if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Not aging gracefully at all

Derek

That's not very reassuring Hail, does he know what it is?

Had a nice 2 hour session tonight, tightened up my foot straps to keep the bump clear. More comfortable but can't push as hard in the turns anymore

Guess I will just have to do until I figure out what it is.

Have seen it before on windsurfer's feet and it was not a drama.

Doesn't mean it ain't something serious.
Maybe a doctor would be better than seabreeze users' stabs in the dark?

I for example still have bumps on my ancles, 8 years after springing them when skateboarding...they still look swolen, and it's hard on touch....perhaps some connective tissues piles up beneath the stress area to prevent injuries on muscles, bones, veins and nerves...

Similar as your hands for example, first they are soft, you go sailing, you get blisters all over and then the skin gets really hard and protects the lairs beneath.

You lot are freaking me out , I don't want another toe or custom shoes. Will be booking into the quack today.

Tightening my foot straps helped, not as sore this morning. Just hope the lump doesn't move down my foot.

why is it only on one foot?

I have the same on both feet but does not hurt, sometimes get holes there from rubbing

have a go at the moving the width of the straps one screw hole closer and much much looser so making them tighter on the sides of your feet and not the top. ideally the strap is then touching the base of your shin.

I think if you are wedging your feet in there then it must be super tight!!

Just an idea and how a lot of guys are sailing now

You have boney changes between the 1st metatarsal and the medial cunieform, called saddle foot deformity

http://www.myfootshop.com/detail.asp?Condition=Saddle%20Bone%20Deformity

bony change- will stiffen up the foot- usually caused by repeated trauma to the mid foot- landing/footstraps etc, hyperflexion or hyper extension

May need orthotics and more fitting footstraps and/or widen and/or narrow straps to change pressure distribtution

DONT AMPUTATE YET

Thanks for the link H2o, So that's what I've got! I just thought I was morphing into a new breed of super-metahuman windsurfer.
Mark I'll have to be called quadpod now.
Make that..... super-metahuman-quadpod-windsurfer-mike
I might grow some gills next

Thanks for the link H2O, that sound like the bugger. A few people have said I run my straps too lose. Will crank them up a bit more next session, hopefully things get back to normal with the strap off the top of my arch.

i've got the same thing on the same foot, and i don't ever remember injuring it. maybe it just develops from repeatedly putting pressure on the same spot, but why only one foot?

I am pretty sure mine is only on the one foot because my local bay spot blows from the one direction and cross on. I have been trying to do the clew first switch stance thing and it involves twisting in the straps a fair bit.

We get a bit of swell out front of the storm water outlet which can be fun if you can get your timing right, bit its pretty rank after a storm
