Seeking Advice

Hi all,

I'm not new to kiting, but total noob in being able to find the time to get out for a sesh these days.

I'm seeking lessons/instruction/advice on the following:

- Business case to present to my manager at work that time spent kiting during office hours will be to the benefit of the business;

- Excuses to my footy coach that playing Saturday's when there is a winter front due to hit is a waste of time. How can you possibly kick goals if its blowing 25+ kts...;

- How to accrue brownie points with the cook so I can seek leave for kiting;

- Reputable nannies, or incentives for grandparents to look after the kids while kiting;

- Medicine or equipment which will prevent feet and hands from freezing in ice cold conditions;

I think the above covers most of the issues I face. No doubt if the above can be solved there will be no wind.

Thinking about heading up to Fishies Bay tomorrow on the northerly,plan b would be Cape Elizabeth but its a bit of a haul to get into and a long way from anywhere to be kiteing alone.
Any good spots on upper yorke peninsula that work well on a northerly ?

what size kite to buy

Hey everyone

I am completely new to the sport and have had some lessons around Middleton. I'm trying to save up and buy my own gear (which will take a wile unfortunately..). My instructor advised to buy any of the north kites ( I am female, 23 about 5'8 and 63kg), however not sure what size to buy.

Which one would be best for adelaide weather/wind conditions?

Any advice would be welcome! cheers

I am after a hose for my pump. Does anyone have an old worn out pump who is willing to sell me the hose for a few bucks? I don't know if you can just buy the hose on its own, but my pump is still good and seams a waste to throw out.

Considering heading out to have a look at the NW on Tuesday.

I'm thinking a lower tide would be best but it is 0.7 which would just be enough to skim over the seaweed in my opinion.

The high tide is a monster so i'm trying to decide whether to go out earlier in the day on the low tide or wait for the afternoon. Any thoughts?

Anyone else happen to have tuesday off and willing to brave the chilly water and likely gusty NW

SAKSA 2012 State Wave Riding Titles

Winters frosty tentacles have well and truly wrapped themselves around Adelaide, but it's not all bad news as winter brings strong frontal winds and big swell for those who want to brave the stormy conditions. So with strong winds and big swell it can only mean one thing- its time once again for the South Australian Kite Surfing Associations State Wave Titles.

This is aimed at being a fun event for every level of rider (beginners to the more advanced). Getting in and having a go is what SAKSA encourages - don't be a spectator, sign up and compete. Beach marshalls will be there to look after you and the more experienced crew are always happy to share some pointers. For the newbies this is a great chance to have a go at some decent waves then kick back and watch some of the fancy footwork of those who have been doing it for years.

To ensure good conditions the event is staggered over 4 weekends in June and July (23rd, 24th and 30th of June, 1st July and 7th, 8th and 14th, 15th of ...

ISAF chooses Kiteboarding for Rio Olympics 2016

Email I received today from IKO:

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has confirmed the final event and equipment selections for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition to be Kiteboarding. After a long discussion with a lot of enthusiasm and support for both sports, ISAF Council voted with a 19 to 17 majority that Kiteboarding will replace Windsurfing for the men's and women's board events in Rio.

ISAF President G�ran Petersson stated: "Kiteboarding has proven to us that it is ready to be included into the list of prestigious ISAF Events and it is a fantastic addition to the sailing programme for the 2016 Olympic Games."

Sir Richard Branson, one of the IKAs Olympic Ambassadors and supporters from the very first minute added: �Well we all flew a kite to get kiteboarding in to the Olympics and unbelievably the kite has landed in Rio! The last seabreeze Thursday at Parham

I am looking at the forecast for Thursday, 30 degrees should produce a Seabreeze. It looks like a light westerly would be present without the seabreeze so it could be the last seabreeze.

Parham normally cranks out another 3 to 5 knots in my opinion. Therefore I am planning on heading there Thursday after work kiting from 5PM to 6PM. I give it a 50/50 chance but the next 50/50 chance for a seabreeze will be a while off.

Largs Bay

Thanks to the kiters that helped me get my board Friday at Largs would have lost it for sure thanks again, had a good few hours kiting prior to the mistake,kite went down in the waveline and rolled and entangled the lines then it was kite loop heaven, got in ok? great day apart from that, biggest waves l have seen at larges and a huge tidal surge and 35+knots .

2 footstraps for surfboard

Hi All,
has anyone got 2 footstraps for kite surfboard?
Have 2 Underground twin tip straps and pads to barter with, as well as a Da Kine Storm Seat harness size small. It will suit under 15 yrs or female hips-used 3 times by my son when beginning kiting.

Onboard Robe Easter Classic Day 0, For those of us who were lucky enough to get into town during day light hours. We were greeted with perfect 4 foot clean waves at third ramp and a beautiful sunset to finish the day off. Tomorrow is looking a complete opposite with big surf and plus 30 knot winds. Bring it on I say and frothing to see who steps up for it. Get on down here, it's going to be an awesome day

Semaphore kitesurfing demo

Hi guys,
As you may or may not know- the Adelaide kite festival is on this weekend. The last day is tomorrow, and as well as being able to kitesurf from the semaphore jetty, you can come down and show everybody what the sport is about. It looks like a decent breeze may be in, so come down around lunch and register to be able to show the public a cool side of kite flying- it would be great to get a group of guys and girls down to represent the sport

Winter Kiting Adelaide

Are wind conditions generally stable during winter? meaning, do I have to worry about anything else besides squalls and my arse freezing?
I've only been going to Largs Bay so far...

Also, as a noobie, is there any spot in Robe that I could practice without interfering with the competition and experienced riders?

SAKSA and some of Adelaide's most experienced kiters will get together for a safety information night. We invite ALL kiters to come along to the Grange Sailing Club on Friday 23rd March at 7:30pm. We will run through many safety aspects of the sport and there will be a Q and A session for any questions you may have. You don't need to be a SAKSA member to attend and we would love to see you all there. If you have any questions about the night, feel free to contact us.

Heading down to Goolwa beach this weekend, anyone else interested?
An eight foot swell is forecast for Saturday, and slightly more wind than Adelaide, could be a challenge.

Heading to Adelaide for 2 months with work and need to decide what size kite to take 12/ 10.5, weighing 80kg? What are the typical winds around this time of year.

Also checked out the SAKSA and read you need membership TAG to ride at some beaches, will my Aksa tag allow this?

Winds Westerly 10 to 15 knots tending west to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots around dawn then becoming westerly 10 to 15 knots later in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Swell Below 0.5 metres.

Kitesurfing Ban at Bower Road

So, I've been in India and Sri Lanka kitesurfing since November, only arrived back to Adelaide about a week ago. Now that I'm over my jet-lag, I decided to try my luck on a seabreeze about a week ago (to no avail, surprise surprise) and headed down to Semaphore.

Arrived and parked up just over the train tracks at Bower Rd in the usual spot near the breakwater, wonder over to the beach and there are these HUGE signs up with big "NO KITESURFING" icons..

When did this happen?? and the big question - WHY?! Kitesurfers don't hurt anyone, we're not obnoxious, rude or dangerous.. So why can I not kitesurf in one of the only flat water areas for miles anymore? I'm a full time, final year uni student who also works to pay the bills and I can't drive to Milang or Parham every time I want to chill out and kitesurf..

Hm.. sorry, this has turned more into a rant than anything else.. but I just feel like more and more we're being restricted for no reason other than the ignorance of the publ...
