Winter Kiting

Just throwing it out there for those going into their first Tassie winter... keep looking over your shoulder, those fronts creep up damn fast. And think about switching your surf wettie for a windsports wettie or drysuit. Our mate Damo can help out there, he's been sorting out the pole dancers for years.

Forecast for this weekend looks crap, if anybody spots any decent wind even a llama fart let me know i'm keen as.

Kitesurfing holidays in Asia

Gday Guys and Girls.

First, thanks for the response to my learning to Kitesurf post, sorry I didnt get back to all of you but I have been busy. I have recently returned from Noumea where I actually got up and can now call myself a kitesurfer.

Next, does anybody know of good places to go in the Asia Pacific region that is good for kitesurfing (looking for warm water and cheap)? I was thinking Thailand, Indo, Philippines, Malaysia etc.

Also are there people still braving the mountain snow and cold water, or is kiting all over until the summer?

I have a free day on Saturday does anyone have a tip for a venue? Looks like there could be a lot of wind, possibly too much. Although last time i mentioned that i was told "there is never too much".

I have not had a lot of luck with the NW so far so info would be great.

I know its the wrong part, but the general lack of a straight answer erks me from the other one.

Have a query about the best way to work on board control, got up an running on my first, non flukey up wind run the other day but found i had trouble going anywhere other than where the kite wanted me to.

So does anyone have any hints on how to work on it and get the movements better and maybe something i can practice on land in the mean time?

If that change doesn't come too early then it could be a great day from mid morning onwards. Then it looks like some big westerlies after that to usher in winter... Could be a great Easter down south!

i drove out there last weekend when it was still and sunny, its a fairly nice long beach but not sure what it's like under wind and waves tho...

Hi All!

I am a Filipina gypsy student who just got to Launceston. I'm taking a Tour guiding course at Tasmanian Polytechnic!

I'm also super keen to kite! I just got certified as an IKO Lev.1 Instructor and I brought all my own gear!

Where are the closest local kite spots?? Are there any events over Easter break?

Anyone who wants lessons or just meet for a drink and talk about kiting can give me a call!

G'day all,

I'll be coming to Launceston next year, and would like to kick into kiting,
I have had lessons but have held off on getting my gear as of yet.
I am 6ft and 88kg, and was wondering what size kite it is you would recommend for myself in tas.
Have been looking at Best Kahoona ( as its what i learnt on) and Naish Park.

And other than a decent wettie anything else i should be looking at for the tassie conditions?

Had a crack at 5 mile today on a westerly... up and down as you'd expect but good to get out for a kite. Great spot for the couple of beginners that were out as well with the tide out and coming in. Get amongst it!

Thought id share photo from the weekend,
Four of us went for a cruise and found a great stretch of beach near beechford, set up and were having a crack, 2 of us are still learning so the waves made things interesting, and the other 2 were loving it.

And then, we got kicked off the beach, by the army.

Ha far as stories go for getting kicked off a beach i like it.

Whoever you are at lauderdale beach currently - red/gold/black kite....

I was hanging around til you came in to say g'day but you kept going for too long. Are you a local?

Always surprised that I havnt seen more people at the beach - its usually pretty good for most conditions.

Be awesome to get a bunch of us down here, BBQ and beers at my place afterwards is a huge option.
