Hi,

I am looking for some local knowledge in the Perth area. I have been offered a job in Kwinana for the next 2 years. I need to find a place to live etc. I would like to find somewhere that I can surf, kite and possibly mountain bike(I know I will have to go inland for this.) At the moment I am looking at either Freo or Mandurah? I considered Perth City but it is just too expensive. Is consistent surf in Perth a myth? Should I not bother considering it? Is there a decent windy season in Mandurah?
I have been living in Bunbury for the past 12 months and it has neither so anything is an improvement.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers.

You've probably heard that Kitesurfing is now an Olympic sport of the future. I've been told that if you want to get involved, you will need to be represented by a national body. I've been told that for Kitesurfing...it is Yachting Western Australia.

Not sure if this is correct or not, however if that turns out to be the case, they will require you to have a "silver card". You can get one by joining up with a Yacht Club. Claremont Yacht Club welcomes any Kitesurfer who would be interested to join up for a cut-price fee and we can register you for a silver card. Alternatively, maybe WAKSA can affiliate itself with Yachting WA and do it themselves?

Claremont Yacht Club - 9384 8226
www.claremontyachtclub.org.au

Greetings,
We are a couple from Seattle, WA. state, the other WA. Planning a trip to Perth for next early December. If we stay in central Perth, are most of the beaches accessable, say with a one hour drive, probably kite from Safety Bay to Lancelin. Sounds like Lancelin would be a couple hours drive, is it better to try to find accommodations there? Any suggestions. Also beaches, we are solid intermediates, want to stay away from the crowds of swimmers, like some surf, will have a surfboard but also flat water. I know some beaches are safer when you are not use to local hazards, we like open beaches for launches, no high tension wires...
Any definite beaches to avoid? Any need for a shorty or 1 mil. wetsuit that time of year. We travel with everything from a 5 to a 14 meter, I know the 14 may not be used but have been on it in places that are suppose to blow, like Brazil. Thanks for any imput. Ken

I am wondering where on the beach at Pinnaroo or Mullaoo would be best/safest to launch my kite and get in the water to practice my kite control and body dragging - I want to keep practising and improving my kite skills until I can get a board but obviously don't want to get in the way of those out having a good time and upsetting people (from what I have read that does happen) so I figuered the best thing to do would be to ask and see if you Pinnaroo locals can point me to a good area..

Hello All,
I am from Reunion Island and I will be travelling to your beautiful region (as i have been told :) ) during May June and July (from Perth and going up north)... I have heard that it was not the best time to come kitesurfing, but here it is...
So what do you think :
a) I don't bring any kite stuff cause there is no wind at all in this season
b) I bring my 7mē : the wind is not often here but when it is here, it is strong
c) I bring my big kite : the wind is slow in this season
d) I bring everything, people says it is not the good season, but it still an amazing place to kite...
What are really the conditions in these months ?
Which area has got the best conditions to kite in these months ? Which size of kite are you using ?
Thanks a lot for your answers...
Adrien
