My interest has been rekindled again.I Was going to purchase land yacht but could never seem to get the cash to buy as I always had to use the money somewhere else. And after reading comments on other sites saying that home build land yachts are not up to much as bought land yachts because they have years of testing and it was near impossible to get the geometry right for the sail and you would never have the same speed handling overall enjoyment as a bought land yacht.

Hi all,

I'm a novice land yachter (I tried it a couple of times in France about 15 years ago!) and maker of things (such as a big rubber band gun). It's time for me to try building a yacht. I like the look of the Lake Lefroy Mini so I think I'll try making one of those.

I'm currently shopping around for windsurfing sails, booms and masts, wheels and steel.

I have no idea where I'll use it (nowhere near a beach, so a field somewhere in Beds or Bucks, probably!) but I'll worry about that when I've finished it!

My rough plan is to get a stock sail, boom and mast at about 5 m^2, build the yacht to fit, and cut the sail once it's all working.

Looking forward to asking you all for help!

Cheers,
Ant

Bugger!! I my hast to use the mast when I first built I didn't put a section up inside it as Reinforcing.. Bugger.
Hi folks,

New to the forum. Studying at uni in Scotland, and part of our course this year is designing and building a land yacht from scratch in teams of 5. Loving it so far. We have constructed a CAD model, which can calculate the centre of gravity, however, one of the lecturers has posed us with the question, "ok, you have the centre of gravity; why is the centre of gravity there better than in any other position?" We were stumped for an answer.

Is there an ideal place for the centre of gravity on a land yacht? If so, why is that? Ours is between our seat and our mast, closer to the seat.

I've tried searching around the forum a bit, and have also been googling "ideal centre of gravity for a land yacht" and similar terms for around an hour with no joy. Sorry if it's been brought up before.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom
