Hi, I'm 81kg and have only been windsurfing for about 3 months on a Starboard Go 171L using 5.3 to 7.2 sails. I can get on the plane quickly, hook in to the harness, etc but have yet to practice beach start, water start, getting in the footstraps, carve gybing etc.

I am looking for a good 'next step down' freeride board for sailing mostly on flat (lake) water, and someone locally has a Fanatic Skate 112L board for sale at a great price (not sure what year, but it's probably an early 2000's as it has the bat-wing nose, see photo):

/Img/Photos/Windsurfing/5885912.jpg

Even though it is a freestyle board, I have heard that it may be fine for freeriding.

Would anyone here recommend the Fanatic Skate as a 'next step down' freeride board to a relative newbie, or should I stay away?

Thanks guys!

Looking to trade my JP Excite Ride for something FAST. Have sailed isonic & JP slalom before and loved both so am heading that way. Hoping for something round the 110 mark for 6.2 to 8.5 ish. I'm (usually!) around 65kg. I have 93 freestyle wave that I love for smaller gear.

Bit worried by JP slalom's small recommended sail range. 108 JP is 6.2 to 7.8. 107 isonic is 5.8 to 9.0. Is anyone able to please shed some light on this?

Also bit mystified by range of 3 for light weights and range of 3 for heavy weights. At 65kg, does that mean I should avoid the boards in the heavy weight range, even if the volume is what I'm after? Does anyone have any comments or experience on the light v heavy ranges?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Bought my 1st of 2 new boards this year 2011 121 Starboard Carve Technora
Got to sail it with a 7.4 yesterday in some flat to small 2 ft chop for 1 hour.
I am no expert and have only rode a few boards in my years of sailing buy here is what I thought that first hour.
I am 56 yrs old weigh 235lbs with wetsuit on, the 121 ltr floated me well right off the top and seem to get up and plan ok , compared to my last board I was replacing my HI Fly Madd 115 twin fin which by the way I really like so it will take a lot to get me thrilled with the Carve.
So rode it for 1 hour turned very nice and seemed to do just about anything you wanted in the turns from a slower turn to a more sharp on a dime turn which was nice.
It also seemed to handle what chop there was pretty good, go upwind not a problem down wind too, here in the "Gorge" USA you seem to sail down wind a lot cause the river is pushing you upwind.
Speed was average not a big concern of mine I just like to have...

It was time to upgrade my slalom boards and I had been looking at a few of the well known brands and was stoked to be offered a team rider deal from The windsurfing Shed to ride Exocet's RS slalom boards.
At first I was abit apprehensive about going to these boards simply because I didn't know anyone who was using them in Australia, in the end ordered up the RS 2 slalom board to try out , specs 90litres -59W- 235L.
The first thing that struck me about the board when I received it was the colour scheme(alot of pink) not to my taste but glad they have gone away from the all black boards they would have died here in the 45deg c + summer , the RS2 has a squarish nose and pinched tail similar to most brands but no cut outs, the construction(carbon sandwich) and finish is first class.
My first session on the water I used a Deb SL3 32cm and Loft Racing Blade 6.3, the instant I stepped onto the RS2 I felt right home, it planes very easily(I weigh 98kg) and feels real free o...

I have had my new set of Reflex's since early Jan this year. I have the 6.2m, 7.0m and a 7.8m.
Here are my findings so far. I have used the 7.8m heaps and the 7.0m 3 times, twice in the last three days.
The first thing I noticed is that they rig straight out of the bag with no wrinkle what so ever, and they look very clean and well built. They rig the same as most modern day race sails. Sleeve mast on top of the cams, downhaul till the mast is visible in the boom cut out, fix boom, out haul and pop on the cams and fully down haul.
The reflex3 rigs with loads of draft below the boom which can be increase with added tack strap tension (I tend to always have max tension). The sail has a nice even twist all the way along the leach.
On the water the first thing I noticed was how light the sail feels, even just carrying it to the waters edge they feel light. Once up and planning they deliver power very smoothly they accelerate like a stolen car in a high speed pursuit. The bottom end ...
