Left one as it is carbon as Stimo pointed out. Don't ask why there is no big carbon sticker, I have no idea. Knowing Jimmy he will just say pick em up and you can tell. 8 5 130l 5kg sans fins

The point is they look the same, only picking them up you feel the difference.

Ugly???? No way. Jimmy Lewis boards are universes away from ugly.

I have a 10'2" Mano and would love grip to the nose. Sometimes when you are paddling hard, the front foot goes forward, for that extra bit of drive. Without the grip, it sometimes ends up A over T.

I am seriously thinking down sizing to a 8 - 9 1/2 JL.

These look great and I am seriously jealous.

G'Day Hilly,

Do you know the difference in weight between the carbon and the sandwich construction in the 8' 5?

Man I've never heard someone bag out a couple of jimmy's boards before I guess high quality boards aren't for everyone

I'd go for the scale, that thing is cool, green face, big black eyes, and a mouth that yells the weight back at you.

I can see you doing old style hang 10 with an arched back way up there on the nose Hilly. You won't fall off with that grip.

I can fall off anything :) Must admit the full grip not my thing, I may rip it off and do a custom grip job if the board goes as good as it looks like it will.

Paddle at the retirement village with 10 other sups this morning. Used GL quads, next time thruster then maybe five up at Exmouth.

Initial thoughts:

The good
Fast with the fat tail and deep concave - Shot off the back on the first wave real kook effort :)
Really light so made a few good smacks off the close out which I would not have on my Stungun. Can flick the board up more vertical right at the last instant.
Very stable for 30 inch wide and caught waves well for a 8 5.
Good rail to rail as only 30 inches wide.
Glide was ok, paddled pretty straight no circle work I get on really wide short boards.
Bounced over the foam on the way out well - nose rocker helped.

The bad
At 110kg front to back stability on an 8 5 at 125l meant I kept moving no relaxing times. Fell a few times after climbing foam easily because the tail sank in the whitewater.
I will need to get used to the wide tail I am not a fan, would prefer a thinner narrower tail but at that length I would sink :(

The interesting
Surprisingly need the full pad, had my front foot on the shark for a few take offs. Wide point and volume forward.
Found out how to tell if carbon - you can see it where the leash plug is routed out. Thin black line.
It was easier to turn when I did not really drive into it as I do on narrow thin boards - I will have to get used to that.

Overall a really fun board, I will need to tinker with the fins to get a feel I like
