looking to go a bit smaller for a surf SUP. At 70kgs I'm looking at something in the 85L volume. Unless I'm mistaken the big brands have nothing in this size, they all seem to go from mid 90 down to mid 70, is there any reason for such a gap?
Yes I strongly agree that there is nothing available anymore around 85L - I still have my 85L Airborn, and a 87L Naish, and a 82L Jp and then it jumps to 90 L Jp etc.? I think the sup makers are lazy and totally wrong in their thinking that only really small guys/people/kids etc. ride small surfing sups and the next size up must be for the average size/weight person 90L or more ?:-)
I guess to put a 85 Ltd ish board into production is simply not cost effective considering the costs of design and moods etc.
phil
Yup, not a market big enough for production. But you can find them in some brands, often labeled as kids boards. Gong has a 75l board for instance (6'10" x 27")
Also, often lightweight people tend to not to consider volume relative to their weigth, and are afraid of "low" volume boards, that would be actually the proper ones for them. This is not the case of everyone, mind you, but it further decrease the potential market.
Sunova's Acid, Flow and Speeed all come in low volume sizes. A bunch in the 80s. The Starboard Pro comes in an 80 something as well.

Never considered Sunova, but just checked their website, quite a few options

At 85kg I have the Sunova Acid 8'11 @120L as my big board and can only imagine how rad a 85L version would be!

Probably because most people would be begging their parents for a board of this volume. Yeesh.
Jokes. I'm just jealous. Big. Heavy. And jealous.
Hey Robbo,
The Fanatic pro wave 7"6 is 80L but feels way more stable then that.
Sam @Wss have one for demo. Give it a bash

80L might be a bridge too far for this old bloke, but why not....
