Can you enter in the morning , and is their a map of where to go , i cant find one on the Malfunction site.
Thanks
Hey Teatrea
I am pretty sure you can register before 930am on the day.
do you mean a map of the course or where the race is going to be held?
Boof
You need to register by 9.30am nsw time at the contest site at Marine Pde Kingscliff next to the SLSC.
There will be a pre race briefing then the race.
Mate
I am pretty sure the race is being held in the creek at Kingscliff just go to the Malfunction tent city and someone will steer you in the right direction
cheers Boof
For all Queenslanders entering the race tomorrow, don't forget the time difference. You can register in morning, just need to do it before 9.30NSW time. Registration is right next to the Surf Club and the race start is next to the Air Sea Rescue tower at the rivermouth. Race briefing is at 9.30am at the starting area, so good idea to register as early as possible to allow enough time to get down there.
Scotty
Hey Scotty,
Is the race still scheduled to start at 10.30am NSW time or will it be pretty much start straight after the 9.30am briefing? Need to let the babysitter know what time I need her there?
Sue (I'm one of those Queenslander )
Hi Sue,
The race is still scheduled for a 10.30am(NSW time) start. I am guessing the breifing will be between 9.30 & 9.45, then giving all a chance to gear up, get ready and out in the creek for the start at 10.30 sharp.
Scotty
Danny Sheard won it , i had to take off after it so dont know the rest , i think Lacey was right up their.I think i come about tenth. It was a good race apart from the final run up the beach that was a killer.

Scotty
Funny that a post about supporting local manufacturers gets red thumbed. Wow, can't possibly imagine who that may have been........
I paddled the race just to pace a few guys and really see how everyone was paddling. It was good to see the level is getting higher and more and more guys are pushing heaps harder. Yeah i agree with mike the dc's and lahui kai with there flater rocker looked better in the flat water with a bit of extre glide, I could see the guys on the more rockered boards having to work harder but then they are not made for flat water so it was a good effort by those guys and girls. I would have liked to see some pure flat water race boards there and seen the difference, maybe next race!!!
Its going to get real interesting in future races as the big companies start putting out Flat water, mid water, and true DW boards and to win a race you will need to be on the right board on the right day.. IMO
I want to thank the Roar crew for a good paddling effort and Big steve for winning the little challage between the 4 boys who train with us all the time..
Good event well done to Scotty and good to see good numbers.
Hey Guy's,
Didn't hang around for the results and presso due to family commitments, but just wanted to say for the first SUP event that I've been to, I was impressed by how well organised it was and I had a lot of fun finding out were the skill level was at for this style of competition.
Thanks Scott for a great event and pass on the same thanks to the Malfunction organisors, it's great to have some of these events on the Tweed Coast.
Dale actually hit the beach first on his 14 in front of Peasey on his 17 but, big effort by Dale....but Troy mowed him down easily in the run.
In the local camp I saw 11 DC's , 4 Lahui kai , 1 secret Agent , 1 Laguna Bay , Imports apx 5 or 6 Naish & 1 Bark ,don't know about the rest this is just what I counted.
The race start was hard straight into a funnelling raging current but what goes up must come down so the second half of the race they had a full flood tide behind them.
Must have killed Jacko standing behind at the start line on his 17 not being ready to race again yet I still can't believe he made it to the 1/4 finals with his broken leg.
This was definitely a flat water race and Jacko raises a good point about different boards for different races. I've had the same conversation with Dale and that’s why his new 14 footer looks like it does, Dale calls it a Hybrid. It's just proven itself in the flat and from he tells me about the 14's sea trails it smokes as a down winder as well.
Lahui Kai are design based from there race proven 18' prone boards and again these boards are quick in the flat as well as down wind. Jamie Mitchell won the battle of the Paddle on this board.
Secret Agent is a another board with a heavy influence of prone paddle boards but Troy has gone a step further with the double concave almost making the board a tri hull. Troy won the Noosa race on his prototype.
Best part about all the above Dale , Burcey & Troy all live on the Gold Coast, how good is that. These 3 guys will continue to push each other constantly moving the goal post making these boards faster and easier to handle in all conditions.
This sets up a great challenge to the production board companies , something I'm sure they'll take on at the end of the day all this R&D is going to produce some RED HOT race boards.
Rob
The factory shapes will always be a little behind the customs due to the length of time it takes to get the production boards out. Customs designs, on the other hand, are continually evolving as lessons are learnt. This is why custom designs are the way to go if you want to stay up there. Obviously some factory shapes will have a longer "shelf-life" than others, so this is a bit of a generalisation.
The emphasis here is not on Australian vs overseas. I want to get it out there that we have really good local designs out there and that these guys deserve our support.
Sounds like if you are not sponsered or rich then dont bother racing as your board will be super seeded next week. Also sounds like the local guys are selling lots of boards so what about they give back a bit and put some events on? all i hear from mike is support your local what about they support the sport. Fairs fair i say. I support local and over seas and probley give back more than i earn.
Flame suit on
Ha-Ha fair call Jacko problem is these guys are financing everything from there own back pocket and are struggling to survive , give it time and hopefully they will be able to.
Rob
I would agree totally with this. These guys are all struggling to survive out there. I know how much $ Dale puts into all of the R&D (I do it too and I am not even in the industry!). It's really hard to do what they do and I, for one, really appreciate it.
