Coastal Waters Forecast for Southern Queensland
Issued at 3:10 pm EST on Tuesday 16 March 2010
Valid until midnight Friday

Warnings
A gale wind warning is current between St Lawrence and Burnett Heads.
A strong wind warning is current between Sandy Cape and Double Island Point,
including Hervey Bay.

Synoptic Situation
A high over the southern Tasman Sea will remain near stationary and extend a
ridge along the east Queensland coast. Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului, currently
700 nautical miles northeast of Mackay and over the northeast Coral Sea, is
expected to remain slow moving over the next day or so, then most likely moving
generally southwards for the rest of the week.

Capricornia Waters, St Lawrence to Burnett Heads:
A gale warning is current.
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, increasing to 30/35 knots over
offshore waters late afternoon or evening. Sea: 2.5 to 3.5 metres in open
waters. Swell: SE 2 to 3 metres offshore. Scattered showers.
Wednesday: Wind: SE 30/40 knots, lighter inshore in the morning. Sea: 3 to 4
metres in open waters. Swell: SE 2 to 3 metres offshore. Scattered showers.
Thursday: Wind: SE 30/40 knots.
Friday: Wind: SE 30/40 knots increasing to 40/50 knots during the day. Winds
dependent on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ului.

Hervey Bay Waters:
A strong wind warning has been issued.
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: S/SE 15/20 knots, tending SE and increasing to
20/30 knots during the afternoon and evening. Sea: 1.7 metres, rising to 2.5
metres in the northern bay. Scattered showers.
Wednesday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots. Lighter S/SE winds over the western and
southern bay early. Sea: 2.5 metres in the northern bay. Scattered showers.
Thursday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots.
Friday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots increasing to 35/45 knots during the day. Winds
dependent on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ului.

Fraser Island Offshore Waters, Sandy Cape to Double Island Point:
A strong wind warning is current.
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: SE 20/25 knots, increasing to 25/30 knots during
the afternoon. Sea: 2 to 3 metres. Swell: E/SE 2 to 2.5 metres. Scattered
showers.
Wednesday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots. Sea: 3 metres. Swell: E/SE 2.5 to 3 metres.
Scattered showers.
Thursday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots.
Friday: Wind: SE 30/40 knots increasing to 40/50 knots during the day. Winds
dependent on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ului.

Southeast Coast Waters, Double Island Point to Point Danger:
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: S/SE 20/25 knots. Sea: to 2.2 metres. Swell: E/SE
2 to 2.5 metres. Scattered showers.
Wednesday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots. Sea: 2.2 metres. Swell: E/SE 2.5 to 3 metres.
Scattered showers.
Thursday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots.
Friday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots reaching 25/30 knots offshore. Winds dependent on
the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ului.

Moreton Bay Waters:
Tuesday until midnight: Wind: SE 15/20 knots, reaching 20/25 knots in open
waters. Sea: 1 to 1.2 metres. Scattered showers.
Wednesday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots. Lighter S/SW winds over the western and
southern bay early in the morning. Sea: 1.2 metres. Scattered showers.
Thursday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots.
Friday: Wind: SE 20/25 knots. Winds dependent on the movement of Tropical
Cyclone Ului.
