Is there that kind of "street sup" longboard philosophy where you have a roller on end of paddle shaft?

A strange new technology.....not really like skateboarding.....more like sup longboards....normal longboards.....and snowboards. Like an e bike with different power modes. Maximum legal ebike power in nz is 350 watts......this is 3000 watts

Was "day one" today. Have never been a skateboarder. But a lot of similarity with surf longboard. Did 10km on it....no carving.....just straight ahead cruising and getting familiar with remote speed/brake control. Didn't fall off.....so was a winner really :)

But now....."old and frightened".....need to buy body armour......a confusing number of brands out there for knee pads....elbow pads.....wrist guards?....like those padded bum and hip guard shorts also

don't know what Aussie price is......NZ price about the same as a quality SUP.....$2200. Range with the all terrain tyres about 18km....much longer if you skinny. If you got smaller more like slick skateboard tyres much much further. Basically 3 speeds.....ECO....15kmh....Pro (going too fast for me)......GTR......gets you up to the 50kmh mark Is 3000watt (max nz ebike size 350watt).
Here i am.....no safety gear except for Gath helmet.....end of Day Seven....have done 95 kays Trying to access the kneepad elbow pad thing of course......still feels like longboarding to me :)

Nice Toy Gizzie, a mate uses his to commute into the city using the bike lane.
He is also a supper and snowboarder so he gets a board fix every day.

I recently got some knee pads for Mtb and been looking for ages for protection and comfort.
They are IXS and no connection to them or Burkes www.burkescycles.co.nz/products/ixs-flow-zip-knee-guard

yep gotta get some protection.....will look at those. Looking at Adrenalin knee/elbow/wristguard packs (they are cheaper than most). Liked look of off road motorbike Thor padded hip shorts also. At the moment am just plain old frightened and cautious.....happy to dismount and take to the footpath through busy intersections :)

The PMD term is being used to cover electric skateboards, e-scooters and electric unicycles and they are lobbying for the current legislation to be amended. Depending on the state, they are generally pretty much completely illegal to ride in public and judging by your comment about 350w I would imagine it's a similar story in NZ

I used to heavily involved in the downhill skateboarding race scene some years ago and it's funny how the demographic for eSkate is completely different and the addition of a motor attracts a lot of older guys with no skateboarding experience!

Look at what longboarders wear and take it from someone who used to bomb hills at high speeds, you need hand protection and a helmet as a minimum. The first thing inexperienced people do when they fall is put your hands out and if you work with them a broken wrist is an unacceptable injury.

Normal slide gloves with a puck are not really suitable for use with the remote, and wrist guards aren't either. This company 1 Protect makes arguably the best gloves for eSkate designed so your wrist slide on impact and reduces the impact on your scaphoid. Ironically they were originally designed for people who use One Wheels since I've seen plenty of people nosedive those things haha! I've taken a fall wearing them and they are legit

See if Ben Buckler Boards can ship them to NZ or buy direct from the US - benbucklerboards.com.au/products/full-finger-gloves-1protect

As for helmets, I personally know people who have died skating from very trivial accidents. Triple 8 Gotham with MIPS is a solid choice, or brands like Protec / S1 / Bern / Thousand etc have similar options that are rated. I don't think a Gath is suitable for skating, but is better than nothing for the time being

I run a full face helmet and kevlar clothing from Lazy Rollers, but I like to ride fast and have upgraded to a LaCroix board which is even faster

For your set up, straight off the bat I would say upgrade your bushings. I also have a Carbon GTR also and the stock bushing are mush. Check out the Evolve performance bushing options, for like $20 it's a worthy upgrade and makes a surprising amount of difference. I'm 75kg and use 97a

Your stiff board with those 7" AT's is not going to be that great 'offroad' If you ride mainly on roads or want better range get the street kit with ABEC 107s, or even downsize to the 6" tyres

Oh and Dope Grip makes a world of difference too for ~$60. Absorbs a lot of vibrations and is super sticky compared to the stock griptape

thanks for the info....did see one major plus for older riders revisiting skateboarding is the addition of a brake. Did fall off the other day.....just a minor oops....backflop from stationary on to tarmac......if didn't have helmet would have been concussion. Am not a "go hard" skateboarder.....perfectly happy to dismount and walk through a tricky kerb or corner or busy intersection, But sadly heavily addicted to the turning and carving of a seemingly endless wave :)

I did fall off a week or so ago.....falling on to a paved surface is nothing like falling off your sup into the ocean. There is no give or splash.....is more like an impact. Was stationary....had braked....hit throttle way too hard.....back flop on to road. Would have had concussion except for helmet......so protection is good. Only excuse is had caught giant schnapper.....rushing to get some ice :)

have been "out in the wilderness" .....Uawa anyway......finally got my e skate protection gear. Evolve ISX knee and elbow pads.....impact shorts....Killer wrist guards. Can see why kool young skateboarders don't wear much protection. Takes time to put on. But their bones are younger than mine.....so will chuck them on whenever i go for a ride ho hum. And a helmet of course. You do feel like you could quite happily bounce along the road a little bit without serious injury when wearing it though
