Hi Folks,
Coming from a Kitesurfing background I am just getting into and enjoying wave supping. I been learning on the Starboard Whopper (10ft 34"w 160 vol) and looking to progress. I like everything about the Sunova brand, however I am overwhelmed at the spectrum of available choices - any suggestions and/or help deciphering will be appreciated.
I would say I am a beginner on the cusp of progressing to intermediate. I can keep up with the self proclaimed intermediate crew I go out with, but certainly do not convert as many waves as they do. I am 6'2" and average around 110Kg and looking for a board that will allow me to progress in the surf and accelerate the learning curve behind the art behind reading waves throughout the Northern Sunshine Coast beaches.

my husband started supping a couple of years ago on a 10x32 beginner sup and then progressed to the Sunova Creek 9'4x32 and he absolutely loves this sup for all conditions from little waves to head and a half and his supping and confidence has progressed really well since being on the Creek and because of the shape of the Creek it doesn't feel as wide as 32 inch wide, but gives you the stability of a 32.
Yes he could go smaller in volume etc. but his fun factor is high

I also started out on a Starboard Whopper 10 x34 and just like you took some advice on this forum from the legend that is SupTheCreek for my next board and on his recommendation bought a Sunova The One 9'5.
I absolutely loved it and surfed everything I could find and made a heck of a lot of progress. It's a great looking board and a forgiving shape that you can surf from the middle or from the fins or nose ride and it's super-light for chucking on the roof of your car.
It's a pretty classic shape that favours a relaxed, flowing style of surfing but maybe swap out the fins from something a bit stiffer.
Eventually, I wanted something smaller but I learned so, so much on this board.
Truth is there are loads of boards in the Sunova range that would probably be fine for you but this is definitely one to consider.

Go for the 9'7" sunova creek very stable but turns super easy. Great construction and easy in the windy chop

Some critical details left out are your age and fitness.... they are a huge consideration when advising people what will be a good fit for them.
My advice here is based on 50 to mid 60's and reasonably fit.
Younger/older or less fit will mean definite size difference.
At 6'2, 110 kg and wanting to progress while having fun, my Creek advice is go with the 9'7 x 33 at 160 L.
It is in the right volume range for your ability, and at 6'2 you will need the added with, as Sunova's all have performance rails which sit low in the water and feel a bit tippy when you first get one them.
I have always felt the the Creek was best if surfed one size larger than you think you should.
The Creek is one of the fastest boards I have ever been on and, if ridden a a big enough size, is great is small, weak conditions to OH juice.

Thanks SupChickadee, surgingsurf, London and supthecreek.I really appreciate the feedback and happy that I have been able to narrow my focus.supthecreek - I'm 45 and fitness is on the average side, and thank you for the detailed information with vids - very cool.I am leaning towards the Creek at this stage - both the Creek and the Kanga look to carry me through as far as I can progress without needing to worry about upgrading - which is perfect.
I will trawl through all the online content and hopefully make the decision between the two in the next few weeks now that I have narrowed the scope.

l can second the Sunova 9'6 Kanga, l am 41, 6'4 and 100kg and its a incredible board
IF you really want to cut loose on waves ,bigger boards to me feel cumbersome, but that depends how you surf i guess ..it is harder to do top to bottom turns , it is important to get a board with performance
and tested by surfers ,eg.creek ,placid ,flow ,flash, to name a few ,good thing about the sunova's ,most are designed by guys that SUP ever week of the year ,not all will be to your liking or mine ,I'm 96 kgs and i've been liking the flow a lot, it is built as a allrounder initially ,but has changed to a high performer with it's thinned rail ,I thought i would be safe in buying another 125 litre board ,as far as my balance goes for a older guy ,but it is a lot more demanding to ride than my 125 placid ,I found the creek was the easiest 125 litre board to ride out of the sunova's ,due to Rick widening the nose a bit,however the placid is a looser board, where the creek was quicker and can tackle very big waves ,
I think you would defiantly improve your surfing buying a sunova ,I really can't recommend one shape for you ,so I will recommend
them all .

Just been lucky enough to have 7 days in a row of good clean waves.
Big and lumpy first couple of days, with some good steep drops so cracked out the 8'8" Flow V2 with Quobbas fitted. Screamin' down the face with this big gorilla on board, loved it. As it slowly dropped off during the week, dusted off the 9'x28" Smik hipster longy, and finished off with a couple of nice mellow sessions on the 10'x28" Revolution.
Dropping the Flow (with all that volume for my overweight ar5e, and refined ledge rails) over the lip was the highlight of my days off though. I was grinning like a Cheshire cat.
You have a great spot there mate, and you don't waste a wave which I admire. Enjoy

Cheers Brenno , 7 days dream time , great to have a few boards hey , makes SUping more interesting,I had big choppy waves yesterday, spent a bit on time in the drink on the flow she can be tippy for me , should of grabbed the placid , but pulled off some nice turns in front of some ladies surfers on longboards , I was impressed, they thought I was a out of control idiot , one told me she didn't know which way to paddle out of my way , ?? lol
