Lancelin Ocean Classic 2016 Dates Announced!

The four-day event will bring together windsurfing and kitesurfing athletes from all over the world who will fight to win the 25km marathon from Ledge Point to Lancelin.  

For the 2016 event the wave competitions will be as high-octane as ever for both disciplines. On Saturday, windsurfing and kitesurfing 25km marathons will both complete the same course, with Sunday as a reserve day. This is the first year in the long history of the event that the windsurfers and kitesurfers will be competing on the same course, following growing demand from athletes. This exciting development will ensure the Saturday evening athletes trophy presentation night is one not to be missed.

In 2016, Lancelin Ocean Classic will be attempting to break the world record for the longest open ocean kitesurfing race.

Multiple world title holder and winner of the 2015 Lancelin Ocean Classic Steve Allen will be returning to compete in 2016, “Knowing the calibre of athletes already planning on attending the next Classic, I am really excited to be among them” he said, “This is such an important race for the windsurfing community and we all look forward to it every year”.

The popular wave sailing competitions will also be back for the two disciplines, alongside stand up paddle-boarding and jet ski events. Last year two local West Australian athletes beat visiting entrants to take home the kitesurfing wave (Dale Stanton) and windsurfing wave (Jaeger Stone) competitions.

Lancelin is located just over 100kms north of Perth in Western Australia, within the Shire of GinGin. The town is one of the best known kitesurfing and windsurfing spots in Australia, but it is also famed for 4-wheel driving, breath taking white mega sand dunes and a variety of marine life. The area was a holiday camping place in the 1940’s and grew once crayfish and lobster fishing boats established home. With pristine beaches and activities for all ages, Lancelin has grown to become a favourite getaway for Perth families. Lancelin is the ideal location for water sports, attracting contestants from all around the world because of wind conditions, beautiful coastline and pristine waters.
The thrilling Lancelin Ocean Classic, Australia’s longest running windsurfing event, has been held for over 30 years, and combines competitive windsurfing, kitesurfing and jet ski events. The headline 25km Ledge Point to Lancelin Windsurfing Marathon currently holds the Guinness World Record for Longest windsurfing race and attracts more than 300 competitors from all over the world.
