I live in QLD, most business around town are closing from 11am, hairdressers, coffee shops and other retail stores are not even opening,.Made a few calls to Sydney chasing stock, same thing closed.

So who thinks it should be a national public holiday because there's not a lot of productivity going on today.

Ah, the Melbourne Cup, where bogans wear suit jackets with billabong shirts and skate shoes and white framed sunnies....and consider themselves classy.

The problem you have is Queensland, at least the Gold Coast, is full of Victorians. Lucky you don't get people clearing off from work on New Zealand holidays too as there are tons of Kiwis up there.

No.5 - Winchester, an outsider and the jockey has Welsh silks.

Public Holiday - technically, it's a Melbourne Metro Public Holiday. Geelong & the Surfcoast had their Cup Day Holiday, last Wednesday week. Last Wed in October. It's not actually a Victoria wide holiday. Although most regional businesses will be on the go slow this arvo, if open at all.

But what the hell, let's just go for a National Holiday!

Anybody know how much the winner paid.
My 8 year old son picked the winner.
The Mrs put 5 each way on it for him.
So these so called experts have been rumbling over stat after stat to try to pick the winner and my son comes up with the goods.
Fark the experts just throw a fart at next years form guide to pick the winner.

20 to 1 in NSW so he should have about $140 coming his way unless of course he placed his bet in Kazakhstan (where I see you are from), in that case he wins 5 goats and a chicken. The first 4 on the NSW TAB paid over $1million ($1.4m in fact ). Tri only paid about $50k

PS - throwing farts at form guides can get a little messy

Oops. Throwing darts would be better.
5 goats and chicken coming our way.

Isn't that statement an oxymoron?
