Hey Northern Rivers kite surfers, moved to the area recently (Upper Burringbar) and looking for buddies to hook up with for downwinders north or south of Wooyung Beach. And just looking to get to know local kite surfers. Get back. Harley

hey dude i lived at stokers siding for 5 years, and kited that coast a lot. the stretch from black rocks down to wooyung is perfect for a short downwinder by yourself if you can fit a pushy in your car. the coast road follows the beach exactly. and black rocks itself is a really nice left that holds good shape when it's windy.

there's a regular crew who kite caba (the beach in front of salt), but not too many kiters south of hastos point until you get down to open sores and bruns.

see if you can track down darren from advection kiteboarding/surfkitefly, he used to live at mooball and was always keen for downwinders.

if the wind is marginal on the coast it's often worth a drive north to kirra where it's consistently stronger

Adam kite repairs lives up that way and does downwinders. You definitely don't need a 4wd to do the downwiders there, you just work either end of the Tweed Coast Rd, from Wooyung to here in a Southerly goo.gl/maps/E1DrjyXpNj82 and opposite in a Northerly. You can go all the way to Byron in a Northerly, but its a real leg burner and there are some spots where its quite a walk if something goes wrong of the wind changes.
Welcome to the area!

Thanks for the replies gents.
Still having to split my time between Brissie and here for work but will be down here as much as possible.

Stamp, do you mean Salt just south of Kingscliff?

Adam, I'd love to join you on a Caba to Cudgen downwinder sometime mate. Still on a TT in the surf but making good progress on the strapless surfboard in the bay. Just got to master this jibe caper.
Got 1/2 way on a short solo downwinder from Wooyung to Black Rock yesterday when plastic around chicken loop cracked on a change of direction causing the QR to let go. Kite got rolled in the surf and that was my arvo done. Was good while it lasted but long walk to Black Rocks!

Ozone, thanks for heads up re Byron Kiters. Have now broken life long vow to avoid FB at all costs. Ah well, it's for a good cause!

Have seen a couple of kite surfers from a distance on my local patch at Wooyung but haven't made contact yet. Will try to track down this Darren character.

Thanks again fellas. Hope to catch ya at the beach soon.
