The Intheloop team including Andy Yates and myself had some fun up in our backyard on Whitehaven Beach. The wind was light winds that weekend and we were cruising on big kites. I used 15m and 18m Flysurfer Sonic2 foiling on my KFA/ Kitefoil Australia MakoV2 and Andy was on the Ozone Zephyr busting out some handle passes. Its an epic, dreamy place to ride around inlet of Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays.

Wow good on you guys for getting out there. Just yesterday I landed in a seaplane right on the Whitehaven beach. Completely offshore and very light at the southern end. Looks bloody awesome !

Should of brought my gear ... it's been windy all week ! Ah well quality time with the mrs

Where are the tigers? I spent several months on liveaboards cruising those islands...not one tiger.one reefy at 15m..once...a few green turtles.lots of kelp.some whales. No tigers.
Also spent every third day crusing 'dugong bay'...looking for a dugong
No dugongs

I really should have kited there
Intheloop.... plse gps the #one# wave

Hi James, I am from Perth so had extremely limited info on the area itself. You can stay on the islands, day dream, HAMILTON or Hayman (most expensive) or on the main land, Airlie beach, which is where we stayed.

Airlie is a little town mainly filled with back packers and it's awesome, heaps of stuff going on pubs clubs etc.

to get out to whitehaven you probably could foil you way out but it's a fair distance so I wouldn't recommend. Wind is predominately SE so big tack up wind from Airlie. Other and safer option would be to ferry it out there but then you only get a short period of time on Whitehaven.

best choice would be to hire or take your own boat out there that way you could explore and have a boat to save you as it's offshore.

no waves but plenty of flat water and amazing scenery.

there was plenty of wind the whole past week there 15-20 knots but the islands are tall and create big shadows. I guess you can kite from any point but it's really gusty and choppy so foiling would be you best shot.

One spot that may good for twin tip/ freestyle is just off black island when the tide is low. Heaps of turtle there as well. There is a big sand bar that forms that makes super flat water.

I use to live on whitehaven kiting for weeks at a time. There is no supply of water so you gotto get heaps dropped to you and gotto shower in the sea before the tourists rock up. Its an hour walk from camp to the inlet with your gear or you can swim out far enuff to get passed the rock and drift launch and kite down to the inlet. There is sharks and lots of coral etc if that sort of thing bothers you and you will be 100% on your own. Every now and then a backpaker would get dropped off on a scamper for a couple nights tho. The scampers cost nearl 100$ so after a few months doing that i learnt to just kite to whitehaven. Crossing the whitsunday channel is very very stupid and dangerous if the swells to big and youll know when it is just abort the mission and head home. The winds pretty **** in the whit and even tho i grew up on hamo as a kid and then lived in airlie for a decade kiting the islands is still sketchy.

I'm going up end of next week. Are there any good weather stations to look at?
Will be staying on Hamo but will have access to a boat.
Cheers

Can I just drop into Whitehaven with my gear and go kitesurfing ? Seems there are so many requirements for marine permits in that area ??
Potentially Ill have a day there next Wednesday - 2nd Aug and the wind forecast is looking ok:-) And thanks to Marvin to understand the hamilton wind readings - on a hill at 60m is quite different to sea level!! so will be taking 3 kites !
And that short film clip shows pumping up a Zepher and twin tips and then Foil kites and foil boards - amusing!!

No need for permits for recreational vessels.
I'll be heading out there for a kite sometime next week, might see you there.

Had a sweet session yesterday - wind was a bit light so had the 14 m up. We got some awesome drone footage and sometimes it's nice when you can't see what the drone can !!! I was assured it was only a lemon shark but a big sucker nevertheless!!!!
