Hi - just wondering if anyone knows Spencer Nolan from Sydney?
His SB handle is Speedy1.
I bought a kite from him last Wednesday and have not been able to contact him since payment was made.
I only have his email address.
Cheers
A seabreeze member warned about the same seller last Tuesday:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/Looks-a-bit-sus
Looks like you weren't the only one scammed for the same ad
Spanishwog sorry to hear this is happening on seabreeze now and your loss.. advice to all is if you havent actually seen them around somewhere in the kiting fields or if they dont have past sales or relevant posts anywhere or are a new member considering seabreeze is an ancient site anyway.. be aware
should be obvious really
sorry againbtw .. check posts/pages for stolen kites before purchasing via web too!

scammers will usually use fake or someone elses email.. and I doubt that his real name... if it helps at all the phone number he had on the ad was 0480 047 969

wow sounds like this crook has done a few over... hope you get money back others have in the past
as the saying goes if somethings too good to be true...
Rookie mistake by me!!
I have been using seabreeze for years to buy and sell windsurfing gear and never once was I nervous that an interaction with a seller was a scam. Even this one seemed fine as he emailed me the photos, discussed the condition, asked me if I could come to pick it up and that's when I asked him if he could send it to BNE which he agreed.
My biggest mistake was I decided to buy a kite (don't own one) on a whim as there has been bugger all wind in BNE for windsurfing. I knew that I wanted a 12m switchblade (for the 10-15 knott range). I jumped onto SB and searched for a 12m Switchblade and low and behold this one jumped off the page at me. I did not research it enough. Just thought - bang meant to be. So I bought it. If I had of looked closer I would have seen the price was way to cheap to be true.
The only good is it is a great lesson for my kids!!
I have spoken with my bank who are chasing it and his bank who couldn't do anything for me.
Have reported to Aust Cyber Security - only $500 so not expecting much to come of that.
Will rack this up to a rookie mistake.
It's a pain, not just for spanishwog, but for us too - this fraudster has consumed many hours dealing with him, and of course he's scammed some bux.
So far we've managed to catch this person each time they've returned, and are building additional anti-scam based on what we've learned.
This scammer is really the first we've had in 15 years, which is a pretty good run. We've managed to detect/catch all others prior to this.
In my experience, these Scammers are generally overseas, and these days can do VPN's, can get Aussie bank accounts and use stolen Aussie credit cards... they appear like they're in Australia, but are actually in some sketchy country OS.
So, if in doubt, a verbal phone call is always good. It's old school, but can be worthwhile if you smell a rat.
And always, please do let us know so we can take them down... thanks ..

I thought a little sketchy so did try to call him and the number seemed legit the ringtone was weird. But then he rang me back and left a voicemail.
Played phone tennis
Tried calling back and no go but thought will go ahead anyway.
Kept communication via Tx as soon as did bank transfer
no more communication???
Thought this is weird.
Contacted his bank who weren't helpful
contacted my bank
hopefully can get $ back
Hey guys, since you were both scammed, why don't you go to the police to file some report?
I mean, I would hate the thought he got away with that...And if he will, he might be encouraged to do that again and again.
After readingspanishwog's story I would've let my "scam" guard down as well if the guy offered a pick up, it really sucks ;/
Love you new avatar there Laurie. Does that mean the green thumbs have turned things around for you? No, not asking for red-thumbs. Cheers
