G'day all
As most of us have been hearing for a while now kiting is making some inroads into the Olympic arena and in October 2018 Kiting is in the Youth Olympic games in Buenos Aires. The format will be twin tip racing with approved tube kites on what I believe will be a downwind slalom type course with possibly some small inflatable objects to jump.

At the main Olympics Kiting has not yet been selected but looks like being a showcase event in 2020 and would then be in a good position for full selection in 2024 and would most likely use foiling gear. But for now Australian Sailing in conjunction with the state bodies are trying to get some interest in this aspect of our sport and introduce some racing at state championship level, in NSW this will be towards the end of the year from September 29 to October 2 at South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club (SLMASC) at Sunshine Sailing Club on Lake Macquarie, a home for many of the current sailors in the Americas cup.

You will need to be under 19 as at 31st December 2017 to be eligible.

They would like to produce a Notice of Race by July and are currently looking for a show of hand to see if there is enough interest to run some races for the kites and include them in the schedule.

If you have read all this with some interest, have the commitment to turn up for a regatta and think you have what it takes to go fast then reply here or PM me to let me know if you would register for the event, hopefully there is enough interest for the club to put some racing on and kickstart the future of our next Olympian's

Cheers
Ric

What a great way of getting juniors interested in racing. Well done Ric. I hope you get some wind.

This is coming from the top down and the wish for australian sailing to have a full team at the YOG
And of course the sunshine sailing club

So hopfully there are some young guys and girls out there with big dreams and want to give it a go, it could lead to competion at the highest level in years to come
