Hi all, i'm heading to maui on feb 26th for 3 wks and hope to get some kiting in. i'm seeking accomodation for one (me) preferably a room for rent in a kiters house close to the kite beaches or a home swap in the awesome pad i have in lennox head, australia where the kiting and surfing is available at your back door. if anyone in maui or elsewhere has some helpful advice of where i can find some suitable, affordable accommodation please let me know. cheers keryn
Nothing is affordable in Maui. Well, accept for Mai Tais and Crack. The former is better.
Paia is where you want to be, but Air B&B is not that common, but if you rent a car from Kimo's, which is super cheap you can stay anywhere on the Island. Nothing is too far away and driving is enjoyable anyway.
I stayed at Mangolani Inn in Paia and it was affordable. Dave has different rooms available. Def rent a car at Kimo's, and you have the whole island to explore. Paia has the best organic grocery store on the islands and food is actually pretty reasonable. You can stock up and make your own at the Inn, or go out, most restaurants I found were not expensive. Kiting on Maui is loads of fun, but you are going during swell season so don't get caught out. They have some of the best life guards on the planet there, but don't rely on it. If you do go down and require rescuing make sure you hit the crew up with a box of beer. These guys risk a lot to keep you alive. Other hazards are loads of green sea turtles. Great to be out there with them, but it's also easy to get a bit to close to them and scare them. Have a great time, it's a great place to surf and kite and explore. Haliakala volcano is a must do, however it will be cold at the top so bring a good jumper. Enjoy......I can taste the Ono now....mmmmmm
