Hi all,
I have just moved to Hobart from Melbourne where I had just taken up kiting.
Would really appreciate if anyone could point me in the direction of a safe beginner spot where I can continue learning. I have taken a couple of drives around and there seem to be some fantastic spots, but I have really seen anyone out and kiting.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Hi Duggen,
Your best option would be somewhere on South Arm, the best spot is Schoolies! This is where I learnt and it is an amazing spot especially coming into winter where you have the northerly and westerly strong breezes. It won't work in any other breeze direction.
See the link for the exact location and where to park!

You do need to be a little careful here as there are powerlines on the road and on high tide there isn't heaps of beach so if it is high its a good idea to walk out into the water before you launch. Also coming into winter its a good idea to keep an eye on Mt Wellington in case you do see any fronts or dark clouds peeking over where the wind can become strong quickly.
Its shallow water heaven and unless you go miles out you can just about stand everywhere.
Just like any new spot check out whats around and its a good idea to take a buddy to help you launch and land :)
Good Luck!
Zac
Check out the poleys made a spot guide
Shoolies on the inside of the neck isnt mentioned because its to shallow for poleys.
In the westerlies we are getting lauderdale can be good, but a bit sketchy to launch.
Catch up with a kiter and get added to whatsapp group, thats where all the current info is
Hi Duggen!
Thought I'd let you know I'm in a similar situation to yourself, just started out and looking for some Kitesurfing company, I would be keen to go down to try out the shallows in the Southarm area.
Let me know if your keen to go!
Cheers
