Cant find any specifications on sailboatdata.com for the Jarkan.

Ideas on a hard dodger to make the flush-decked Nantucket more aesthetically pleasing?

Would the Nantucket'sailing abilities be dubious?

Thoughts?

Jarkan 10.5 and Peter Cole's Nantucket 33....both centre-cockpit.

The Jarkans were built locally and were really good boats. Mate had a 10.5 and cruised the Qld coast for 5 years and was very happy with it. On his return he had a larger Jarkan built, about 45 foot with an aft cockpit. Sadly he died from cancer shortly after she was launched. He owned several yachts over a 25 year period that he spent cruising and working on the East Coast. The 10.5 was the only centre cockpit yacht he owned. I know very little on Nantucket 33's but they certainly come up cheap occasionally.

Either will handle Bass Strait but your comparing a 33 with a 35.
The nantucket replaced the east coast 31 and the Pawtucket the Bounty 35.
The Australian made Cole boats are good strong dry seaboats with a high freeboard . The downside to this is a long way down into the cabin and not the easiest to climb aboard from sea level. A big plus is the flush deck with heaps of room on deck and full headroom below The Nantucket was used a fair bit as a bare boat up north. I did a trip or two crossing/ in Bass Strait in a Bounty I owned and had no issues.
The Jarkans are proven sea boats . Young family in pen opposite back in the 80's sailed the pacific in one ,no issues.

Just one point is that the Nantucket 33 (originally called the Nantucket Island 33, I believe) has had the anti-foul stripped off and the Jarkan looks due for it. I've had quotes from about $5000-9,000 for my 36'er to have a strip back and re-paint, so it's not a cost to ignore when totalling prices.

Both look nice. A well geared Jarkan goes quite well when sailed well, keeping up with the racier boats of their vintage downwind.

The other Jarkan is the 10. Shorter but actually a bigger boat with the cockpit in the right place. They sail well too. There is a local one for sale but this one up your way is surprisingly cheap.

Bathroom is in the right place and I love the quarter double. It looks like a padded cell

The 925 and the 10.5 are the same hull design. 10.5 has a sugar scoop and internally totally a different story.
I have a Jarkan 925 and a mate has a 10.5, they are totally different layouts inside and the 925 has to be the one of the largest internal volume 30 footers going around.
It is also very slippery through the water, has standing headroom of 6"1 through to the compression post and with a beam of 3.2 M there is more space than you can imagine for storage.

I'm envisaging a lot of money to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

I have always liked the look and design of the Nantucket 33 island. I like the interior fit out as well. On the one advertised I think if you spent an extra $40,000 (making sure the hull and mast are sound) on her you would have a sensational boat worth the money you spent. More importantly most of the money would be spent on new items or rejuvenating the boat to a high standard. That should give you quite a few good years of life out of her.More importantly you will get to know the boat and fit-out much better. off course it all comes down to a budget. if I was buying this boat myself i would allow the figure mentioned and then some to get her right up to speed.

Went close past the local Jarkan 10 this morning while showing a bloke some moorings. This one is parked close to a Brolga and looks enormous in comparison!
