Yesterday I was heading out of Port Hacking in my yacht. I was at the wheel stearing with one hand & checking the weather on my mobile phone with
my other hand. Next thing a Maritime boat comes speeding towards me with its siren & flashing lights on. To my surprise the maritime boat pulled up beside me. The Maritime officer then explained to me that I had been identified illegally using my phone while in operating a vessel. The officer explained that Roads & Maritime are trailing cameras fixed to channel markers ( similar to the ones they use on roads) to identify illegal mobile phone use on the water. The officer said as the cameras are still in the trial stage I would only receive a written warning. A warning to others indeed...
