A vid on what Signal K is about.

NMEA 2000 is a closed protocol which means it's an area that only the big boys could play in (hence the expense of NMEA 2000 nav products) and has made it almost impossible for third party developers to create interesting apps and solutions.

Signal K will change all that, opening up this proprietary system to a whole new world of possibilities.

To me it makes no sense .No one makes signal K wind or depth sensors or any other sensors and for me sending data to a engine manufacture is not on my list nor will I ever join some thing called tweeter .

For me when they make senors wind. depth with signal K output that can be used by a windows PC located on my boat Ill buy it.
Caterpillar for years have done exactly what signal K is going to do Cat machines send data to satellites and back to location which in turn monitor the machines performance and analyse any problems also the movements of the machine(GPS location) how much fuel it has and many other pieces of data including when its hours are due for the machine next service.

With you HG. I can see how this would "grab" the imagination of some people but from my perspective, simplicity and solitude, it not for me.
