I am looking at moving my boat from botany bay to the harbour.
I have no idea of what areas are best?
Some suggestions would be great. Ideally I would like reasonabley sheltered somewhere with dinghy storage and a jetty close by. What do you harbour guys do for water? Where can you fill up?
Thanks

highly reccomend woodford bay, for dinghy storage, parking, sheltered. servo/bottelo within walking distance and even a partially used ferry wharf you can use to pick people up.
Also my mooring aparatus will soon be for sale cheap :)

Don't think you're mooring would be big enough for my boat or is it over sized?

So only one suggestion? No one else knows good mooring bays in the harbour?

I think the issue is just too big. The harbour is massive and facilities and conditions very localised. Where in the harbour are you aiming for?

Mate had his boat in Burns Bay. Plenty of parking, ramp and dinghy storage (for free last I saw). Is shallow in places and is a long way to get to the harbour proper. Very, very protected.
But would be relatively easy access from the south side to drive to.

I was thinking west of bridge and hopefully south side.
It would take me at least an hour to get to Woodford bay and I have been told parking is very hard.
I live in sw Sydney.

Parking near Woodford bay depends on which side you are coming from. On Saturdays the Lane Cove Sailing Club guys take all the parking spots near the boat shed on the western side.
Alternatives are Five Dock bay, but I think there is a bit of a queue for a spot there. Or Cabarita, but not many mooring spots there.
Otherwise further up the river near the Concord bridge.
Why not near Drummoyne sailing club? Apart from parking, dinghy storage and access......

woodford is easy to get to. 15 min from kensington which is south of the city. theres even a whitworths on route!
ive had a mooring at woodford bay for nearly 2 years. theres always parking. went 2 saturdays ago at 12pm and the carpark was empty. thats how it is! i should be keeping it quiet really! i wont be there much longer anyway...
Two dogs the south side is kinda limited mate. all those south side moorings are realllllllly long wait lists. in fact i cannot even think of any south side moorings west of the bridge. east of the bridge theres felix bay i recall having a short wait list but 0 parking and exposed .youd be right in front of malcoms house. only options really are west of the bridge. i got lucky with woodford. its a really nice spot, no riff raff, no crime, servo up the road, easy to get to. i bloody love it. the dighy racks storage sheds have a hose and water. its worth a look. you want to be on the lane cove side. kellys esplanade.
ill be risking everything to go down to JB upon my return - maybe. its just too nice down there and im finding myself going to syd less and less.

maybe. I dont really enjoy sydney harbour - or sydney itself these days. prefer to stay away. Even the harbour can be a bit of a stress at times. Sydney harbour is the antithesis of why i sail.

I had a mooring in Tambourine Bay in the late 90s. Lovely and sheltered but access a pain and shallow for many yachts. Burns Bay is worse.
I would suggest Drummoyne. I got a mooring spot straight off the club 80 or so metres out, park in the club parking area right next to the launching ramp and keep my dinghy in a rack at the club. And I joined the club only a month before I got allocated the dinghy rack. I can be on the boat 20 minutes after leaving my place.
However, if you want to sail mainly on weekends you need to get there before 12.00 midday to guarantee a park as the car park can fill up with the lunch crowd. During the week you can park on the watefront anytime.
It is exposed somewhat to the nor easters (a bit of protection from the islands) but protected from other directions.
Woodford Bay is protected and surrounded by lovely properties. It isn't a bad spot at all but I'm not sure what sort of Bugatti Veyron Steve drives but the Bay is 20-25 minutes from my place in Leichhardt, heavy traffic makes it more. There are 251 moorings in the Bay, you can end up with a mooring out in the middle and hemmed in by many other yachts.

i highly recommend a scooter or a motorbike. The ultimate freedom in helping get to and from boat and park anywhere.
25 min from leichardt is bout right to woodford, but TD would be coming from the m5 i tihnk. from moore park super centre to woodford its usually about 15 min depending on traffic - in a car. Its all traffic dependent! I wouldnt be that keen to be in the middle of any bay, but some in woodford have small OB's. Going for a sail tomorrow evening. excited. its been 2 weeks!!!
will just have to avoid the start of the gfs race if there is one. :)
