Hi All
I just want to ask this question
<div>I have this 34 foot Roberts yacht and I was told when I acquired it six months ago that the rigging was three years old at that time The previous owner has lost the paperwork to prove this and what I want to know is can it be checked or does it have to be replaced to be sure One of my worst fears is a stay breaking and the rig coming down.

<div>Any ideas or help would be great

Ask the PO which rigger did the work, then ask them. They will probably be able to remeber and confirm.
And google rigging checks - there are any number of checklists around that might help you.

Cheers, Graeme

Unfortunately insurance companies need to see the riggers report so as suggested find out who the rigger was. If they are a licensed rigger they will have the invoice/report. While you can age some rigging by the turnbuckle design etc this isn't really much use to anybody.

Like MB said you can judge the age a bit. If you look at the kind of turn buckles you can judge the era of rerigging, unless rigger used old design ones that he kept in his cupboard for years, and if you see traces of rust where the turn buckles are and under the swages the time since re rig might be more than 3 years.

Re worrying about the rig coming down, although there's no guarantee of course, if you are doing day sailing and not pushing the boat to its limits it would be unusual. even if the rig was 5 years old as long as it was OK in the first place.
