Would love to know if anyone had any experience with this unit and how well it works especially hooked up with an older plotter (6-7 years and over). Does it pick up all the data? How reliable is the wifi link? I assume you would use it with a Navionics app on mobile or a tablet, is that right?

Hi Seebreasy;

I have the Twin Yakker, which has 4800 and 38400 baud NMEA inputs. The 4800 receives data from my very old and basic Navman plotter, and the 38400 gets data from a dAISy AIS receiver. I run OpenCPN on an Asus netbook, and it all works very well.

I'm very happy with the Yakker. It's easy to install and set up and does what it says. My only minor criticisms are its fairly flimsy housing, and the limited signal range. It's fine on my 28 footer, but I wouldn't use it on a much larger boat. But then again it is very inexpensive and you gets what you pays for, so for a budget solution on a small boat I would recommend it. It has an AP mode which simultaneously allows the netbook to also receive internet data over Wifi via the iPhone.

Cheers, Graeme

Thanks Wongaga, does it come with good installation instructions? Their website is not too informative.

The configuration is very easy, and is described on the website. The physical installation is super-simple - 12V to the + and - terminals, and the NMEA wires to their terminals.

Cheers, Graeme
