Thumbs Up

Since finding out about foils. I decicided to put one on the board I use the least. My 7ft Coreban Hyper/Wahine that I felt was soooo slow in ride & paddle. A board that needed to be worked & good sucky hollow waves due to excessive nose rocker.
But now I have found that apart from riding the foil once the board has lifted. It has improved its speed immensely. Plus improved its paddle speed.
I've found if I ride the board as normal it seems to ride more like my other faster SUPs. And yes you can ride a foil SUP as normal if you take care & keep that nose down! Lol. So hey, why not ride it normal. I think it will help a lot when learning. It got me confident in catching waves & turning with a foil.
Another thing foiling has taught me is to be able to paddle & stand in the surf stance. Something I never felt accustomed to but wished I could do when catching waves. But now I can. I knew I had to do this to be able to have the best foot placement when catching & riding waves.
My first day was extremely hard. 2 hours of it & I was in pain from the hip down. Lol. The very next day I could only last in the surf stance for 15 minutes. But now in my 12th session I find it very easy & comfortable to switch to the surf stance & paddle as the wave approaches which I think is a great advantage for those days when you need to be very quick on the stance switch when either foiling or SUPing. Which usually had me leaning back & trying to lean forward again as I took the drop on those steep drops.
Can't wait to try this out when I get back to normal SUPing. But at the moment I am committed to having about 20 sessions on the foil before getting back to SUP surfing. This is how long it took me to surf my first paddleboard with confidence & stability. So hoping this will be the same.
If it wasn't for foiling I may have never learn't this technique nor would have used a board that just sat in its rack wasting space.
