What's the theory behind the stripes?
Obviously the idea is to act as a "dolphin" repellent, but how / why does it work?

You beat me to it
But yeah basically to stop looking like a solid object in a shape of a seal and to look like a number of objects.

Great Idea.

Sharks avoid anything with stripes, at all times...

...without fail.

That's just like a lion with its cub. It's just transporting it with love and care

Good idea

A friend of mine took the opposite route & drew a couple of big eyes keeping lookout from the bottom of his board.

It was once told to me that in South Africa the scientists that work around the seal colonies. They tow seal decoys to get sharks to breach. When the sharks are a bit shy and hard to cox up, they have a seal decoy that has black and white strips..
I have no proof, other than what i was told..

That's enough proof for me. Sounds like looking like a normal seal is the way to go :-)

Hmmmm.... I dress like seal and splash around like wounded dolphin, and I'm still alive as well. Goes to show -
you have a much greater chance of developing a melanoma, getting prostate cancer, or dying in a car accident
