Hi, for beginning, I would stay longer than 8'. The paddling technique needed to enjoy a 8' in waves will take time (mastering the row effect, take off, paddling speed, wave placement), your windsurfing experience will not help you at first (except perhaps outgoing, to punch through the foam)

See my detailed post (in French, Google translate may help you) at www.gong-galaxy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=7816&p=108613 on why you shoild avoid a 8' at first.

Longer than 9'6" is not worth it for your weight in Mediterranean (slower) waves, and you do not need too much volume. Something in the 115 - 135 liters range. Width will give you stability, but at 64kg, you can go down to 30".

I would advise a shape with wide nose and tail, for extra stability and glide.
On your selection this means: avoid the Hokua JP Pro, Manas are OK but the 9', not the 8'1". The Gerry Lopez is too narrow for a beginner (doable, but will slow the progresses)

This said, I would push you to look at other brands. I do not know where you are (France, Spain? I see you listed a shop in Labenne), but in Europe we have a lot of quality brands (better and cheaper) that are not available in Australia and are not mentioned often in this forum, but it depends on the country. The main one for instance in France is Gong (you can get a lot of useful advice on its forum www.gongsup.com/forum/index.php (in the Gong line, the NFA 9' will be a good choice for instance) but there are a lot others, and also some quality Australian boards can be now be found in Europe, like Sunova in Portugal.

There's nothing in that list that I'd recommend..

Yes.. the 8'10'' Mana is the best one there IMO.

Have a look at the 10' Laird next to the Lopez.

oceangypsysurf.com/surfboards/sup%E2%80%99s/

They are a really versatile board. They paddle and surf excellent. Perfect for surfing the average windswell and having fun paddling around.

Don't worry that they are a slightly longer board. They turn beautifully.

I have even seen a guy use one in a downwind race and make second amongst others on racing boards. Fair enough he was a top competitor doing it for a challenge, but it does show how good these boards are?

I would buy one of these earlier model Surftechs. The construction is a LOT better than Lairds own boards.

Always admired these Surftech Lairds. I have one of the even older 10' x 27 performance models. If I ever had to, I would be happy to replace it with a second hand Pearson one.

The shorter wider board is not going to be as much fun paddling or even surfing on your waves. It will paddle slower and be harder to surf. Like Colas has already said, you get a lot more glide and flow on the longer longboard style boards.

If the above options are all you have then I would suggest the Mana 9'5 x 31, it is the longest and most stable in that list, will surf well and allow you to paddle flat water easily. In saying that if you could wait until you could get a longer board that would be better as I have seen a lot of ladies on 10'6 and 11' boards doing it easy in flat water and having a great time.
sometimes it's better to take a breath, wait and get something you will enjoy for a long time rather than take what is available now and have to change it in 6 Months?
