At the opening of the ISA SUP and Prone Paddleboarding world championships (that Australian competitors have seemingly boycotted), the ISA President Fernando Aguerre had this to say:

"We are the United Nations of SUP and Surfing. We are here to show the leaders of the world that peace between nations is not just necessary, but also possible."

Now if only Mr Aguerre could achieve some semblance of peace with the ICF instead of maintaining this destructive war over control of SUP, then his words might not ring so hollow.

From what I gather, the ISA couldn't find any country willing to stump up the cash for the right to run a world titles event so it wasn't going to happen in 2019. But then the ICF ran a very successful world titles in China, so the ISA panicked and rushed together an ill-conceived plan to prove that they are still the global peak body for the sport. This involved staging the event at the most hard to get to location and with virtually no notice. The Australian race contingent seems to have decided to that it was all too hard so they have all gone to WA to do King of the Cut instead.

pretty much nailed it, on top of money to be won in WA and less chance of being murdered or kidnapped.
