Hi all,
I'm looking for opinions on either the 9'2 Sunova Speed or 8'8 infinity RNB. I'm in my mid 50's about 100kg, intermediate. I'm after comfort on waves out back. Mainly waves from knee high to overhead. My current boards are the sunova 8'10 flow 130litres, Hobie CM pro 136 litres and Hobe Torque 120 litres. Getting older and fater after a few injuries. Lol

I have never surfed Sunova Speed but I do have a RNB custom - 8'4x120l. I am 105kg. 8'8 will be way too big. They surf large and are very stable due to wide tail and nose. You should be on as small as possible otherwise it may feel unwieldy. 8'2x125l would be optimal at 100kg.

I love the speed surfing forehand ! backhand not so much due to lack of outline shape ! Ive still had some amazing waves bakhand but needs to b hollow and fast the speed grips the face of waves like no other sup or surfboard ive ridden ! Wot volume and length r they?

Cant vouch for the Speed personally but the Infinity RNB is a special board, had an 8'8 for a while and loved it, I am 85kg and def. could have gone smaller but loved how easy the 8'8 was in bumpy, lumpy or fat surf. It really lit up in the juice once I put good fins in it as well- went a fast as you could handle, bullet proof and just a bucketload of fun.

Definitely got those sort of waves down my way. Was looking at speed and comfort. Was still looking at keeping my Hobie 9'4 CM pro and moving on my 8'10 sunova flow and 8'11 hobie torque. Out of curiosity what fins did you put in? Also thruster or quad?

Yeah it will have speed and comfort covered for sure.

I ended up with a set of quad 3D Futures Dave Boehne Fins with dimples on them, quad was the best set up I found. Stuck like glue to the steep beach breaks and just flew through mushy onshore waves easily.

With a bit of footwork practice I was able to get a bit of top to bottom surfing and when i got feet over the fins cutbacks were fun, throw in a bit of sliding every now and then.

Cool. Sounds like what I'm after. Might look at the 8'5 as well.
Cheers.

I have the 9"5 speed which I absolutely love. I have a 8"8 RnB being delivered tomorrow so it's great to see positive feedback on the board. Can't wait to get her out

Do you find your 8'10 flow stable?

The 9'2 speed is a massive jump up in size.

. Yep the 8'10 flow is very stable. Different board to the speed though. I have had a go on a mates 9'2 speed for a short time in clean chest high waves. Great board. I was also a lighter too.

Sydney Sup81,
Whoohoo, sounds like good times ahead. Can I ask your weight?

I am about the same weight and had the 8'10 flow im now on a 8'2 flow. The 8'10 flow covers alot of areas they're a great board.

I think you'd be better of with a longboard shape for progression. The 9'2 speed is a big board

RnB 8'8 -Rider 6'3 tall , 100kg - Got the new board out for a flat water test today, waited till the wind picked up so it was a little choppy. For what l consider a "short board" l was very comfortable on it and found it very stable, was also surprised by the glide, going against the tide and wind l was still covering good ground. Cant wait to get her out in the waves, my gut is telling me she is going to rip.

I had a couple of waves on a friend's 8.5 I'm only 75 kg but it was without a doubt the fastest I have been on a sup, down the line in 1.5 o head, the board was way to big for me but unbelievably fast .

Nice looking sled! Have not seen the grey color scheme before - bit of a sleeper in the line up that will go under the radar until you fly past at warp speed with the grin of a Cheshire cat!

Nice photos. At least you had offshore winds and glass. Looks like you made the sections which is a great sign that the board is good on the rail

Hi.... I,m 55 and 94 kg i have a 8,10 speed and a 9,5 speed. The 8, 10 surfs really good but can get tiring/tippy especially if there is any chop around the 9,5 surfs really good too and and is soooo comfortable, don't be afraid of the extra length .... glide is great.
I have about 10 different SUPs of different sizes and IMHO speeds are the best. Shorter does not mean better. As i said glide is good.
