Hoping to come over from Tassie in late June to travel and surf the Great Ocean Road region.
Can anyone recommend some SUP friendly breaks in this area? I'm a fairly experienced surfer and will ride either Left's or Right, but I'm a Goofey, so would definitely love to surf some Left's.
Any info is much appreciated.
Torquay, Jan Juc, Bells?? Anglesea, Fairhaven beach, heaps of beach breaks, Lorne, Wye River, just keep on going. Before Torquay there are also a lot at 13th beach, Barwon Heads, and anywhere in between. From memory all the reef breaks are right handed but if there is no swell and bad wind it all turns to crap regardless.
It's a great drive and it will be cold but being from Tassie that won't bother you.
So if it's accessible, Victoria that is, you really can't miss any of the beaches and surf spots, no need to go to Bells for example as there are plenty of other places as good if not better, as for lefts plenty of beach breaks and reefs, supertubes is an example right in Torquay, park at Pt Danger car park ( it's not a secret spot ) not that many prone surfers unless it's really on. I've never had a problem with any in this area.
I'd avoid Steps / Boobs and Winki on a SUP. Bells is ok if head high or smaller, Southside is a good left...as is super tubes on its day.
If Torquay is 1ft, Bells / Southside and 13th will usually be 3ft.
Lots of breaks all the way along the Bellarine / Surf Coast. All need N thru SW wind, with the ideal wind being NW for most breaks. Any E in the wind and it is basically all over other than Ocean Grove / 13th (which need N but can work with a NNE)
Thanks for the reply fellas,
The above info was exactly what I was after.
