I don't see the benefits for local surfers or the local community from the WSL moving into WA for the whole of May. It seems like entitlement that they can move in tamper with the environment block local surfers show case our spots to the world then leave. Does anyone really care who the world champion surfer is anyway. I believe we have two pro surfers in WA which does not really represent the local surfing community

Interesting very interesting, I don't think it's any value add to anyone here to hold the comps.
everyone who surfs here likes it cause it's quiet midweek. What actual value does it bring, for businesses down south it has been super super busy lately. When the borders do open we have many people here already, have already noticed waaay more foreign surfers here in last five years.
destroying Rottnest and televising it to every single Brazilian and French/Israeli surfer in the world does not bring any value to me.
It adds to crowds, than all the pros drop clips of every other wave on the island and down south.
Am I selfish yes yes I am .
Go and spend three months in the Gold Coast and tell me how fun it really is

Sorry to let you know, but
I dont think WA is a secret spot.
The rest of surfers in Australia and the world see it like an expensive Bali...... except the local emu beer and the local woman are not as palatable as in Bali.
Lot less flys and meth heads in Bali too
But Bali is almost the same now as it seems to be packed full of crew from WA, lol

keep advertising surf spots and they will get busier........places we think are well known are not known
to many overseas or even the groms interstate. I remember when a magazine done a feature on Cylinders in the 80's,
I had never heard of the place, probably was not a secret spot, same with so many places we visit and surf on holiday

advertise...'describe or draw attention to (a product, service, or event) in a public medium in order to promote sales or attendance'

I think you are right in a lot of what you have said there Windy but whats to gain by not being able to surf those beaches for a month because the tourist commission says we can't. There are not many secret spots in the areas that the WSL are going to and visitors here for an extended indo trip or a month cruising around arnt going to find the quiet spots either but the known spots will get busier and for what TV ratings? The local tourist industry cant keep up with local demand at the moment. I would say the big hotels in the city are feeling the pinch but try and book a place in exmouth at the moment and you will see its chockers.

If the federal governments travel concessions are anything to go by, they're not that interested in mingling with us either LOL

Cheap tickets to Alice Springs anyone WooHoo

I've enjoyed watching the pros surf Margs since the 80's. Especially that time Pauline Menzer went over the falls on a huge day. Tom Curran rode one into the rivermount. Watching Occy do lay back cutback stalls into the barrel over the surgeons & Kong taking off way deep out the back on huge storm swells.

I'd just prefer they set dates & surfed those dates, Happy to watch them surf big onshore bomb days. Sorts the boys out from the men (visa versa for the females)...should be just one week, with the finals on the weekend, not endless laydays waiting for the primo. They're pros, so should surf whatever huey throws at them.

It would be a better option to give them a week and be done with it

Yeah for sure, dunno but isn't that how they did it back in the 80's/90's. I reckon we gotta give them a bit of a break atm though with the scamdemic. Two weeks lockdown in between countries they had to endure just to come here, like the tennis players for the Oz open...no wonder Kelly didn't show. he headed back to not so crowded Indo & Federer was like sorry can't make it. People are like making the best or enduring the worst times atm. Contrasts have never been greater...

After the debacle in Hawaii and the fact that the WSL is run by America the tour has turned to sh-t IMO.
How can you crown a world champion this year whoever wins it,it won't have the same credit as any other year.
Why not just seat it out for 2021.

I think your right. It is a tough time for a lot of people at the moment and maybe we do need to look at things differently. I suppose by giving a bit and showing compassion we may just change.

Maintaining any kind of normalcy while the world freaks out is for the best imo. I don't really care who wins, I just like seeing good surfing at good breaks. But can empathise with people getting pissed at having their local taken over for too long also....re: "giving a bit" maybe flick your favourite Bali driver a hundy or something through paypal if you can spare it. Some are doing it pretty tough over there.

I visited the fabeled spot where the WSL took over yesterday. I was as if they where never there. No signs of destruction no left over building frames the tracks are all the same. They did a good job restoring the place and looking after it while they where there from what i saw.

That's good to know Mr Beast. Now I look forward to your daily update in the surf report. That page has been too quiet lately....

Christ you are all a bunch of whiney entitled boomers aren't yous. Mainbreak is probably one of the most consistent spots on Earth and you are complaining that WSL use it for 2 weeks. Get a grip!

Mark my words; the Olympics will unleash a frenzy of surfing uptake the likes of which we have never seen before.
