Still early days for me, i tve tried quite a few foiks but recently took the plunge and bought vento 85 with 790 wing, had a great time so far, for free ride it lifts quite early and has decent speed, points upwind and I feel comfortable with it. So far used it 6.5 cam sail, I have an 8.6 yet to try with it, but has anyone tried their bigger foils, they seem to be releasing quite a few now, not sure which to pick. Would like to stick with smaller sails.
This guy has put a lot of thought into it. He has even modified his board to take the Moses deep Tuttle. If he doesn't answer your post directly, I would email him.
I have a Tortuga 873 foil, but have only tried it once so far.
It's a replacement for my former slingshot Infinity 84, short fuse, 42 stab setup.
So far I can say the lift and speed is like the i84, but with the longer fuse and 483 stab it's a little more calm in its reactions.
The I84 was very reactive and needed some attention while riding.
The aluminium mast of the Slingshot felt stiffer than the carbon of the Moses. But it's a Supfoil mast, the Moses windfoils use stiffer masts afaik.
But anyway, I could feel a little flex, but without negative effect.
As I use the Tortuga only for strapless frerride and wwf foiling I don't put much lateral pressure on the mast, so the flex doesn't hurt.
For powered up freerace foiling I have another foil.
Biggest advantage against the SS is the weight, 3,6 kg vs. 6,2 kg.
I was think of getting the 873 and indeed its much like the ss inf 84 which people on here seem to saying is noticeable slower than the inf 76, has similar take off speed but a noticeable lower stalling speed.
Would that be fair to presume?
I get the feeling when on the 790 with a 6.5, once I get a small gust the sail pull through my harness its up and away, then the stall speed is incredible low.
I would like to move to a 5.3 but I can't imagine if I used a smaller sail with a bigger wing I would get going any earlier, ie the sail needs to be loaded to get going with anything and you need same sort of take of speed.
Would ss inf 84 users agree with that in principal ?
Worried I'll buy the 873 be slightly impressed with stall speed and disappointed with top speed and not sure if I'll gain goal of dropping sail size.
Sorry, i can only compare the Moses 873 to the i84.
I only had the i76 for 2 month last year, just to sell it and get the i84 when i realized it had to less lift for my 90 kg while supfoiling small waves.
I did start windfoiling my supfoils seriously only after i got the i84.
And yes, i can confirm that the 873 has an extremely low stall speed.
