Hey everyone
I currently ride a Naish Quest Wave 258 as my smallest board (100L). Don't sail that often but very confident with this board. I'm mabey looking for something a bit smaller but still want to have a good wind range and an easy board to sail. Would i notice a lot of different going from 100L to about 85L (also wave board). Don't want to go to much smaller than this otherwise i think i would be very limited in what conditions i could use it. My smallest sail at the moment is also a 5.0.

hey bubs, i used to ride a 110 ltr, starboard carve as my main board, and i recently got a 85 leater, fish, this board is verry very nice, and it is iwde, you board at teh moment is quite a long board from memory and this board i moved on to was short and fat. i had no problems at all on this board, and i use it is 20 knotts, and up on my 5.4 and my 4.8 in the stronger days. i am 5'11 i think and wiegh 70 kg's if you are similar i would recomnd the change, but try to look for a board that is short and wide, it is a whole new experience, and i love it, wont go back to long boards, beside the traditional wave boards,
hope this helps.

Yeah i'm about 5,10ish and 65-70kg. I still trying to convince my dad that a new smaller board would be better. I would like to try it first before i bought one though.
Also whats the lightest wind u can use your board in jord? Because the board i got isnt very versitile but i looked up the fish and seems better, even though it's smaller. I use up to a 6.5 or 7.0 on my board now. What size have u used on yours?
Cheers

Unless you are a real gun, the minimum volume to uphaul is about 5-15 litres more than your body weight (ignoring board width, etc). I am 72kg and get away with a 7m sail on 85litres - I can uphaul this in about 7 knots, but really struggle when the wind drops below this. Once it gets above 10-11 knots, I never uphaul (its just about always easier to waterstart). You probably need to ask yourself is "do I still uphaul?".
You can easily get away with less volume than your body weight, once it is windy enough - you just need to watch the wind to make sure you have enough to sail back in (wind doesn't "just die suddenly" - you dont notice it set lighter...).

I don't usually up haul, only when im injured or something. Because the deepest water i sail in is about waist height. So i can always step start. So i have never realy tried a deep water start in my life. Mabey one or twice in the channel but i wouldnt have pulled it off.

hey bubs, my boards wind range is about 18 to 25 knotts, and the sails i use are,4.9, 5.0, 5.5, and a 5.4, but once it hits 25 knotts i need to sheet the sail out a lot so it keeps under controll, im not to sure about what sailing you are doing, but if your looking to get into waves, but are not to confident with the way that wind is always dropping out tehre it is geat, i have been hit buy some pretty big luls before, and i didnt have to muchtrouble with the board sinking, this is the best thing about the fish, and because it is such a short board with most the volume at the tail it is easy to do jumps, and carve it up,
hope this also helps
