...seeing as though hardly any available secondhand.

I love the Flying Objects bag, they are the ultimate. No reflective bvllsh!t plasticky stuff on the bottom to rip... pure, unbridled tough canvas. As Tim the Toolman would say "err err ugh"

BUT I object to paying $200 for a bag. If I ding the board bad, it costs me $30 to repair it.

So I got a quote for a canvas place to duplicate a Flying Objects gag, canvas outer and the plastic tarp inner. None of the reinforcemnt on nose and tail. They said $160 materials and $160 labour cos they can't comptete with China. Fair enough can't comete on labour, but $320 all up???!!!

Surely we can find a source of good hardly used secondhand canvas and have a sailmaker produce a basic bag... tough outer, good 10mm camping mattress foam and no ****y logo's or superfluos reinforcement.

Anyone?

Did that many years ago when I was a grom and had no money. Trouble is, the thickest needle for a normal sewing machine will do maybe 3 layers of denim.... and still break now and then. 2 x canvas, plus 2 x tarp, plus 2 x edging material (cordura nylon) is not really do-able.
But a sailmaker could piss it in with their machine.

C'mon sailmakers, find a source of cheapish seconghand truck tarps and make a good bag for $150. You'll be on a good wicket.....

200 bucks for a FO board bag? Got one for 160 new at 2ndwind for the Evo. But I guess it all depends on the size of the bag yeah?

if its a smaller board no more than 60 cm wide, you can get surfboard ones which fit them in, for
$160-180 at city beach in garden city i use one for my wave board and it workes perfect plastic zip so it doesnt rust or get cloged up, and has teh reanforcment for teh nose. you can even fit a boom in there with a 430 mast, its worth goin to check them out, they arnt those silver ones two its a nice brown billabong,
have a look i think u will be quite happy, unless you despritly need a fin cut

go GUN. Bought one, materials and quality good. Price was very competitive. Would purchase again....You shouldn't have to spend more than 160 on a good padded bag

Mark_A, go the gun bag, you wont be disappointed, price is well in reach of most of us.
I purchased a “3mast” Mast bag last season, good tough exterior, but flexible. Reckon I could tow the thing from your joint to Albany and it wouldn’t bugger the mast. bag might be a bit tatty by then, but masts would be OK.

Well I haven't seen a gun..... but F.O bags are surely the toughest around. I have abused the crap outa mine and can't hurt them. Maybe Gun is just as good.

Trouble is I think an enterprising sailamker in WA could do the same thing much cheaper and make some good $$$ doing it

Comrade Mark
I know you much loving of FO bag (they is owned by Severne yar ?) but maybe you trying Maui Fin Co bag
I have one, very thick with nose guard and good handle/strap for carrying.
This bag do many overseas trip and also serve for sleeping in sometimes.
This bag is very strong and very good price, I pay $145 brand new for him... maybe you asking of shops in Australia who is selling of this brand. Bag is red on top and silver on bottom... double stitching and taking many big knocks but still many years life is left for him.
The silver on bottom very tough, even dog of the chewing and he not split or tear... maybe your Baltic dog he making of lighter work though with those big teefies yar ?

Spot-o: be stuffed if I cane see it on buy n sell. Tried ur profile and it has all items for sale except for a board bag. Then again I *am* pissed.
What size is it?

Krems, don't like to reflective or plastic bottoms, can't be as durable as canvas surely?
My boards don't get hot in the sun as the foam is so thick the heat doesn't penetrate. I've left them in the sun to check and stuck my hand inside, they're fine, maybe 50deg tops (and humid and smelly
A light coloured canvas is fine so I don't see the need for a cloth top and reflective bottom??

yo all,

If you stop and think about it, $200 is piss all to spend on something which will protect your expensive board and keep its value. We all know that most damage occurs OFF the water, and fading of graphics etc doesn't help you sell it later.

You should ALWAYS have a board cover, and if you can't afford one, should you really be spending all that money on that new board ?

Well, err no. Nobody here said don't buy a bag.

I just spent $500 on a board which is 2 yrs old but immaculate: factory condition. WTF would I spend $200 on a bag for it?

Yes every board needs a bag, but: My point was most of the bags are almost a fashion statement, with multicoloured panels, screenprinted graphics, and reinforcing that is bordering on unnecessary.

All many people want is plain light khaki or light grey canvas like they use on a swag. Cos is is tough as nails and some of us don't care for a flash looking bag. If they can make a single swag with lots more work in it than a board bag, for $150, then surely I should be able to get a board bag of equal durability to Flying Objects (which i consider to be the benchmark, the best bag going)....... but for about $120ish not $200.

Anyway, finally found a reasonable price (from Padi) so he's got my business.
