How would a shaper replicate your info, Wouldn't he need one of those 3d shaping machines like Quatro in Hawaii uses? You could try a surfboard shaper that may have a shaping machine.

John Hall still around? I think he had CAD facilities, or might be able to point you in right direction.

stacks

Now you could probably count them on one hand.

So what shapers are there left in aus:
juice (wa)
nsx (qld)

what are some others?

Very very good boards but have a look at their web site: to send a board over is OUCH $$$$$$$$$$$$$

CA are still cheaper than any of the big brands (especially in slalom boards).

Where are delta designs at?

Mark, talking about locally made boards, do you think their design reflects where they're based??
Ie stony boards from Gero are better for high wind stuff, and Delta from Margarets better for low wind??
Just an idea I had, don't know if it's valid.

Thanks Guy,s , I,ll try a few of the suggested builders to see if they are interested . No need for them to have CAD facilities , I can print as many sections as they want .

I make boards for myself, so thought I'd throw my 2 bob's worth.

If can you print full scale plane shape and rocker profile
That would make it easy to get those right.

Also you'd need to specify materials, ie density of core foam, thickness and density of sandwich foam, inner and outer cloth type, (carbon, glass) weight and # of layers. You may even want to specify angle of weave.

where I use carbon reinforcing, I run it at 45deg so both carbon warp and weft share the tension load with the 90deg fiberglass.

I'm now using 1 layer 4oz @ 90deg underneath the sandwich & 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass @ about 70deg for top and bottom, vacuumed on.

No sorry, I'm too involved with my own stuff at the moment, speed boards, wave board, fins, etc.

Light and indestructible is a hard call, you need to use the right materials in the right place with the best construction method.
I'm still experimenting with that sort of thing. (That's why I'm playing with cloth orientation).
I'm happy with the durability of my wave boards, but maybe I could get them lighter.
I'm only 70Kg so no real test of how they'd stand up under heavier use.

Kinda .... sorta..... never actually sailed either but have looked at their shapes / construction.

Stoners seem to be stronger due to hi jumping Corro's style (not that Delta were ever weak) .... just that Stoners seem to be maybe a little heavier in the layup

Delta are not necessarily for light wind but do seem to be more big wave DTL oriented..... really good knife edge rails in the back 18" or so .... bet they carve great but are a bit hard for the amateur to ride. You can see that even in the Kinetic Delta waves of the last 2.5yrs I think

light and strong in my mind means timber veneer, carbon and vacuum bags.

i had a contact for a cheap 3d blank cutter in qld from your cad files. so i'll see if i can get the details and let you know.

cheers.

Thanks Gesalt , Getting the blank NC cut , then getting somebody to lay it up could be a good option . I don,t have the time or skill to vac bag / lay it up myself. I,m more of an arty /farty designer .
I,m pretty keen to see how these designs go though . One big advantage of the specific CAD Software I used is that you can get really acurate surfaces and shapes , so it would be nice to be able to replicate these 100% .Getting the blank NC cut would help .

I know Carbon Art use a Cad based program for design thy even use it to have the foam core cut rufly to shape before they shape the final lines. They would probably be happy to help you and but Price is another question????

Hi Mr Love,

You need to talk to Eric Metrot at Tromes Design. He is the guy who designed the Salomon hollow "Blue" surf boards.

He has a multi axis robot arm which he uses for machining boards from 3D files. He also does prototyping for other industries which is how I came across him.

He uses Rhino with which most 3D files are compatible so whatever program you built your model in will probably be ok.

He has developed an amazing laminating process and as far as i know would probably be willing to build your board for you. However I would imagine it would cost a bit....
