I'm posting this in a different thread so that I don't offend those who believe certain threads are genuine.

I was warned a few weeks back on this site about a guy going around creating profiles pretending to be a newbie and getting people to give him/her advice on our forum.
Of course you're going to get those types every now and them, but this is the same guy repeatedly posting thread on our forum.

In the latest one (in my opinion) he is acting as an American who lives in the mountains somewhere in the USA. Won't say where when asked. Says he can SURF (in the mountains), throws 'mate' around like a native ozzie, wants to buy two cheap windsurfers so he can freight them across state and sail with a buddy in Florida. He usually enters into some weird diatribe after a few posts (bit like me!).
Won't tell you exactly where they are from and are vague on all aspects of windsurfing.
And then there are the long winded responses proclaiming innocence and how bad the world is when someone susses them out..
Considering they are 'newbies' they spend a great deal of time composing responses and NEVER mention their windsurfing experience.

I know I'm going to get plenty of stick for this post but lots of guys have wasted good advice on this porker!

So if you see one his posts, hit that thumbs down key..

maybe we could start up a 'sticky' - called newbie advice or something and so everytime someone asks they get reffered to the post and so people don't need to keep offering the same advice?

I like it...
A newbie section would be great I reckon.

Even a How To section, where you can put advice for different moves etc.
like
gybing
forwards
backies etc etc

"I'm posting this in a different thread so that I don't offend those who believe certain threads are genuine."

I'm not offended, hopefully the awesome folks who tried to help me aren't. I am just not sure why you doubt me so much. Do you think my posts would be enjoyable to someone who is not a newb? Why would I waste my time? Why do you waste your time calling me out?

"I was warned a few weeks back on this site about a guy going around creating profiles pretending to be a newbie and getting people to give him/her advice on our forum.
Of course you're going to get those types every now and them, but this is the same guy repeatedly posting thread on our forum."

Not free advise for a non newb! If someone is that pathetic, why do you keep encouraging them?

"In the latest one (in my opinion) he is acting as an American who lives in the mountains somewhere in the USA. Won't say where when asked."

I don't recall being asked where I live. I live in Woods Cross, UT just north of Salt Lake City, Utah.

"Says he can SURF (in the mountains)"

I have surfed. But only on vacation (holiday), (duh I live in the mountains). Hawaii and California both have great surf/windsurf spots.
Also Hood River, Oregon is considered the "windsurfing capitol of the USA" next time I drive through there I plan on renting one. I was so stoked to see how fast some were windsurfing on the Columbia river.

"throws 'mate' around like a native ozzie, wants to buy two cheap windsurfers so he can freight them across state and sail with a buddy in Florida. He usually enters into some weird diatribe after a few posts (bit like me!)."

The first "mate" just slipped the others were for your benefit. It also seems that my use of the word "Cheers" might have thrown in some suspicion. So ya I was playing around a little when I saw how paranoid you were. Understand that this is common usage for both those words in both the States and Britain. Not just oz anymore.

I want to buy two cheap windsurfers to keep me entertained locally and
give me experience for when I travel. I will rent when on holiday. Its hard to stay good at something only doing it a few times a year.

You are right about Florida being clear across the Country for me. When (if Aruba doesn't happen instead) I go to Florida I will fly and yes the windsurfers will stay at home, I will rent.

"Won't tell you exactly where they are from and are vague on all aspects of windsurfing."

Any further questions about my local?

"And then there are the long winded responses proclaiming innocence and how bad the world is when someone susses them out..
Considering they are 'newbies' they spend a great deal of time composing responses and NEVER mention their windsurfing experience."

Admittedly this was longwinded... however I seem to remember mentioning my lack of experience right from the start.

"I know I'm going to get plenty of stick for this post but lots of guys have wasted good advice on this porker!"

"So if you see one his posts, hit that thumbs down key.."

If American newbs aren't welcome here why not state it originally.

Also grinch you have wasted more time making nonsense accusations than any proper troll could have wasted starting fights. If there is something I can do to put your fears at rest I will. But I think I should take this as a obvious hint "Not Welcome". You are "Pat Malone"

Thanks to most of you...

Also a Newb section or sticky would be great. I found it hard to find quality information on the net.

That way I wouldn't have wasted your time.

Seems to me a few of you guys are taking this WAY TOO SERIOUSLY
It's pretty simple from where I'm sitting... if you see a thread and read a post asking for info and you feel like giving it... give it.
If not.... then don't. You're not obliged or duty bound to respond

Some of you guys are starting to sound like you feel gutted because you have taken the time to provide info to some tool who turns out to be a sepo shi_t merchant. Sounds like you feel you have been 'cheated' for taking the time to respond...
Reading some of these posts for the first time it would seem like some of you feel you have provided advice as a 'service' which you have not been paid for ?

The forum is free and most of the time is fun to read and participate in
For those getting frustrated by the habitual trawlings of those simply out to dangle the bait in order to get a rise out of you, I would suggest pushing back from the keyboard, taking a deep breath and thinking about why you are here in the first place... windsurfing

Remember the first time you got planning on a board... or nailed your first gybe. What about your first real jump.
Man I'm smiling just thinking about it now and can't wait to get back out on the water

Well said, Black Dog.

Do we have a problem with the person or the post? If someone posts a reasonable comment in a thread, do we have any right to attack them just because they're new, and their profile says they're from the USA?

I think that at the very least it's rude, and takes the thread offtopic.

Trust me it's obvious when Brucie decides to start flaming... and I can't help thinking that he might eventually get the courage up to actually stand on a board with a boom in his hands.

Sounds like we're working this thing out, must admit it's troubled me a bit.

So here's another question, what about "foreign members". I've no problem helping anybody out from anywhere. But how far down this road does every body want to go?
If this is the world's best windsurfing forum, do we want to be inundated by people from every where talking among themselves. Seeing some people have trouble sharing this space with other states!
